Hi All,
I wound up ordering 25 of these from Banggood and they arrived yesterday (1/15/2019).  I use these to supply new, pre-programmed NANOs with the Raduino Clone board kits I sell and I programmed a number of them yesterday with Farhan's V4.3 software.  They use the CH340 USB Interface, and require the "Old Bootloader" to be specified when programming via the Arduino IDE but they all programmed properly with no errors apparent.

Having VIP status at Banggood from previous orders, I got these 25 for under $2 apiece.  Took about 3 weeks to get here using their standard shipping but worth the wait as far as I'm concerned.

They don't have the "NANO" or V3 marking on the ones I got but comparing them with ones I've bought through Amazon for $3.50 apiece, the parts layout and what markings on the parts I can read are the same.  They do work and come with the pins but not soldered in place so if you need replacement NANO's and can wait for the slower shipping, it's a good deal.

Hi
I am tech challenged on programing NANO

I have the V4 bd and will be adding the JackAl bd on top with a Nexton 7 inch screen

Could you please advise to software and could you help me on loading software.

I will be ordering extra bd's.  Would you load the needed software to the V4 and JackAl when software is up.

I am willing to pay for you for you time and help.

Heh ...My K2 SN #19xx ..Not quite 1999 but close ..I 'think' i've got the mods current but ...

On my Ver 3 board :

on Ver 3 schematic shows R100,106,110 as 10 ohm ..Ver 4 shows R100,106 as 33 ohms and R110 as 100 ohm
Doing some verifying, I found R102 (schematic 36 ohms) to be marked 330 ...measured 330 ohms ...R 100/106 marked 330 to be 33 ohms ...

So ..I don't rememberr changing R102 tho I may have ..All were same style/color but ...anyway made them all per Ver  3 schematic ..got lots better receive now

Re: V5 board

Good points that we don't know what we might really get on v5, in spite of the excellent designers involved.  A v3 or v4 board can be used on some bands, with some kinds of antennas - with care.

I don't know if anyone has compiled statistics on 'good bands' with stock version 3 and 4 (?).  That would provide a little guidance in use.  I have spectrum analyzer plots of mine, but we can't make a use case from one rig.  I don't know if anyone in our club has patience to analyze plots from 23 v4 rigs - when we have them.  I am a bit more concerned about spurs associated with the 45 MHz IF, and these are mostly on the bands above 14 MHz.  I do have some 'serious harmonics' on mine, but don't have data in front of me - and note they are different on SSB and CW due to using different transmit chains.

Jim as for those resistor changes - of course the rig is made for some hacking.  In some cases the designer may have changed resistors in a coordinated way between various circuits to balance gain, perhaps.  I did adjust one resistor, per Farhan's tip, only because I added a 45 MHz filter - and it may not have been necessary.

I need to tend to 2 new issues with my uBITX (a 40m suck out that is of unknown cause, and suddenly my receive chain is deaf (when I wasn't anywhere near the board when it happened ... this on another thread labelled 40m) - so moving it back to lab bench.  The uBITX was wire-and-use with few issues in the build.  Modifying it for compliance can be a bit trying - if it is the root cause for my maladies.

I've also bolted a nice spare heatsink I had to the voltage rectifier, so fingers crossed that should do the trick.

I've done it like this so that if it doesn't work, it's a simple job of removing one of the resistors to up it to 2.2 Ohms.

Spare Raduino pins with Nextion

Rich aka M7PEZ

With using a Nextion, I'm looking at the pins that are freed up.  Is there enough computation power in the raduino to use them for additional functions?

Nothing too hevy, I've a motor board that is going to be attached to an Uno, the idea being that when the Raduino turns live a pin goes high so that the Uno can perform other functions (like power the screen tilt and slide motors)

I've also got a rotary encoder with an RGB LED in it, might be quite cool to make use of it if I can :D

OR would I be better off upgrading the board to a Mega and do it that way?

Chill out Jack!!!  I already have all the manuals downloaded and read through.  I have a board I'm building and know all of what you are telling me.

I'm trying to impart to you that it is NOT my place to support YOUR customers.  You have already publicly accused me of trying to make you look bad and now when I am trying to be nice and help I keep getting nothing but grief from you.

I found some serious discrepancies in those manuals including the BOM parts not being related to silkscreened parts designators on the current board and the same for the schematics.  I gave that info to Al in good faith and he was appreciative of the info but after your continuing hostility,  no more. Any problems I find with your material will be kept to myself and I won't bother to pass them on.

JackAl displays

Albert Peter

Hi everyone,

There have been several inquiries regarding the displays used on the JackAl board for uBITX.  Display technology for microcontrollers is rather complex and very dependent on having the right combination of display, controller chip and, most importantly, a set of graphics libraries for that micro-controller and display.

JackAl was designed to be used with a very specific high resolution TFT touch display, for which there are reliable libraries.  For instance, it will not work with the Nextion series of displays as configured.  The software would have to be significantly rewritten to use these other displays.

In the process of designing JackAl, we looked at a number of display options and determined that the ones specified from buydisplay.com will do the job.  We have not tested any other displays with the final software, other than those specified from buydisplay.com.  We know those work and the supplier appears to be reliable.  Any other displays have not been qualified to work.

Hope this helps with some of the JackAl display questions,

Regards,

Al

They don't have the "NANO" or V3 marking on the ones I got but comparing them with ones I've bought through Amazon for $3.50 apiece, the parts layout and what markings on the parts I can read are the same.  They do work and come with the pins but not soldered in place so if you need replacement NANO's and can wait for the slower shipping, it's a good deal.

It's not hostility, it's me disagreeing with you that I didn't tell the guy, according to you, "forcefully enough" the type of display works with JackAl. What more are we supposed to do beyond specifying the part that is designed to work with the board? Also, I'm not asking, nor expecting, you to support our customers. Indeed, I don't know why they would be writing to you in the first place. If they write about JackAl questions, just pass them along to our Forum or have them ask us directly.

I tried to correct my mistake about the Nextion display fiasco by posting your URL so they could go to your site for further information. When you first wrote about the source code, I told you I was still working on it and I was targeting Monday and would post when it was ready for download. Rather than wait for my post, you publicly stated that you couldn't download the software and that it was password protected. The only reason for that protection was because we wanted to have our Beta testers to have access to it. There won't be a password, but already I've had to explain to others that we will not be using passwords when it's ready for distribution. Not one other person has complained about the software being late.

Al told me that you have found some errors in the manual and we both appreciate knowing about them so we can fix them. Those are informative. If you find more but choose to keep them to yourself, that's your choice.

I think what sets me off is your attitude that you know better than I do how to run my business. You bragged how you never would release software with known bugs in it. No one wants to do that, but I almost sent you the code, mentioning that it still "had some hiccups in it". I've never knowingly released software with bugs in it, but because I was going to let you use it, I mentioned that I was still working on some issues. Your response was to lecture me about how to run a software company. I ran a successful software company of my own for 17 years before I sold it, so I have some experience in selling software. Couple that with a Ph.D. in economics with a minor in Finance and I think I can say I understand how to run a business. Telling me I wasn't "forceful enough" comes off as "I-know-better-than-you-how-to-deal-with-customers". You're right, I don't appreciate that.

My guess is that if you leave my management decisions out of your reach, we'll get along just fine. If I find errors in your manuals, I will tell you about it and hope you'll continue to do the same. However, if someone asks me a question about one of your products, I won't write to you and tell you that you should be more forceful in addressing his questions. While I might suggest that you should response, under no circumstances would I don the mantle of hubris and tell you how to respond. That's your choice.

Jack
