Size of uBITX Surface Mount Resistors/Capacitors ? #ubitx

Does anyone know off-hand what size the surface mount caps and resistors are that are on the uBITX board ?
Are they 1206 ?

I have ordered mine from www.Robotshop.com
two 3.2 inch Enhanced version and one 7 inch basic - all good.

I purchased what appeared to be a Nextion display according to the description, off ebay recently. Cost was $12.  It arrived ok but does not work. The Nextion editor warns that displays with the prefix "TJC" are not compatible. On ebay they are being sold as Nextion displays but appear to be some sort of copy. (Hardly unusual) ( Genuine Nextion displays start at more like $18-20.)

The Nextion editor does not allow them to be uploaded with files.  Apparently there was supposed to be a way, with some previous versions of the Nextion Editor which I found and also tried, but to no avail.

So a warning about using 'Nextion" displays, but actually shown as TJC types, they should not be purchased.  Unfortunately ebay (as usual) sellers do not tell us this. Some don't even show the part number on the back in a picture.

Bill,

The list is not a direct replacement list each has differences.

If you replace the failed device replace both with the same vendors IRF510.
(BUY TWO).  IF they charge more than 1.50$ each its robbery.

When you replace them you must reset Bias.  NExt time whats the temperatures.

I tried to keep all resistors and capacitors to 1206. However, some of the C0G caps in the filters were not available readily. Hence, we chose the more common 0805 for those.

Re: VOM Advice? Simpson 260

Simpson 260 there are many  variations of that model all woth it and easy to get repaired.
The biggest advantage is measuring current, the old analog meters have less voltage drop.

Another is the Triplite 630 that looks almost the same also very good.  I have one that
was unmolested and near perfect.  Handy instrument.  I also use a fluke-77 digital.

Other brands include Avo, some of the bigger face meters from known test
equipment makers.

Receiver overload.  There is no AGC in these.  TO my ear the CW sounded a bit hard.
Try tuning in a really weak signal.

It could be the audio amp.... V3 or V4?

Ok!  A 40 watt bulb lit!

I am using a end feed half wave.  It had been working great but I will recheck for storm damage (we have had daily storms for a week or so.)

Yes the audio out is working correctly.  I plugged speaker into the output jack on the PC and I heard the music.  I also checked the other side of the EASY DIGI board I am using.

Thanks to All!!

The Radio is on the shelf, a fuse holder and several irf510(s) are ordered, and my other radio is up to bat. lol.

Good lessons learned about replacing displays, re-working arduino code, and mosfets.  Fun times, actually.

Wish local store carried the mosfet . . . .

Calibrate and BFO adjustment

M0CLS

In Laymans terms would someone please explain the calibration setup for my ubitx on factory firmware?

My bfo was out and after checking with various AM stations like CRI and RRI, noticed it was off frequency by 150 Hz here’s what I did given the really poor band conditions today!

Firstly I tuned to 5.505 USB Volmet and adjusted the bfo setting untill the audio souded decent. (Around 11997.7 i think)

Then I noticed the slightly off frequency issue so tuned to an AM station on 11.635 USB. This was not zero beat as that would have been 11.635.150. I went into the calibrate menu and adjusted until I heard zero beat. Although this also brought the signal down somewhat! I saved and listened. The station seemed much closer to the frequency now (within 50hz) but quieter. This might be the bad conditions or have I upset something?

Next went back to Volment on 5.505 USB and checked the bfo again which seemed fine so I left it alone.

Then I read about he USB/LSB trick on 7.040. I did this and I am hearing FT8 on both usb and lsb! So back to the drawing board...

I’m sure the ubitx is now seeming less sensitive but as I say with the conditions thats hard to say.

You guys are probably going to tell me I have done it all wrong now! So if someone could tell me the correct procedure I would be very grateful

Thanks Doug.

I thought that most of the parts looked like 1206, but I do see a few smaller (obviously 0805).

Thanks for the temp limits. I had forgotten about its thermal shutdown.   So @ 168 how long can I hold my finger on it? I stopped at 10.  I have a nice big Radio Shack sink on it.

Reminds me of advice I once got. My buddy said I shouldn't use the finger touch method. That I should use the upper lip method.

Yep. When I asked how to get my head/lip down into my equipment he threw something at me. 🤔. I figured it out the next day and won't reveal how to do it!

I can only confirm my unit too is 100-150hz off frequency. I kept like this as the carrier and the opposite side and are heavily attenuated. I noticed that at 10meters band seems more close to 150hz while on 40m is around 100hz.

Transmitting WSPR will run the PA flat out for 2 minutes, with the standard heatsinks I am not surprised they blew.
I run a small fan near the heatsinks.

Re: ubitx 13.8v for RX #ubitx

Of course we can use it at 13.8v as long as it is really 13.8v, that is regulated.

i suppose that there is no much difference between 12 and 13.8
 Hence
 you can use it .

Otherwise we have to reduce the regulation to get 12.00V output

Do suggest can i use 13.8v Power for RX purpose (no tax right now)

Why not asking Sherwood to publish the rx performance of the Ubitx? Ok, maybe it will not stay in the top ten :)

Re: bitx and ubitx encoder replace ment

An excellent encoder, I use one on an HDSDR controller.

With the detent mechanism removed to allow free turning the encoder gives a very smooth tuning action.

Now that the encoder can spin freely the protruding crank handle will always come to rest in the down position so it has to be removed.

Also saves the cost of a separate tuning knob.

Thanks to both of you for your replys. I checked the radio today, when you key on cw the amp reading is .189A to 2.59 A on key down.  I get a little over 10 watts out.  It looks like it may be the mike so I pulled a old mike from the junk box and I stripped it down and will install the element that came with the radio. I will see if that corrects the problem. I am trying to get the radio to work correctly before I try any mods.  Thanks again.
