Paul Since version 1.0, we have posted all the distribution in the release section of github. Version 1.01 can also be found here. Version 1.03, which I will upload later, will also be registered here. git release https://github.com/phdlee/ubitx/releasesAnd the related explanatory materials are mainly posted below. Re: uBitx just started transmitting a loud hum
#ubitx-help
James
Great news and many many thanks to all.
I have soldered in the new electret and I've got no hum on transmission, and very good audio reports! This one is now solved! Next task is an rtlsdr waterfall display! Cheers and thanks for the help! James

Since dual gate BF998 units are apparently older and either not stocked or obsolete, I would assume the BF2040 is acceptable to try (and inexpensive).

Re: Audio pop on CW

I'll be in touch, Bill, but am posting the following for others who may be interested.
The muting mod is on the uBitx.net site. Here is some info about the mod to get the sidetone back. You’ll see in the attached schematic that R253 is X'ed out (removed) and a 1K and .1 are in series to the yellow wire on the volume control.
If you are looking at the the Bitx board from the front, along the front edge just right of center is a row of SMDs. The first one on the right is R253. Remove that, then solder your cap/resistor series combination to the end where the resistor was connected that is toward the back of the board. (You can see from the trace that it is connected to C252). I soldered the cap to that point, with the resistor connected to the cap, then a wire to the volume control, but you could solder the wire there and attach the cap/resistor series at the volume control.)
Farther to the right on the schematic you can see another modification. That is the sidetone volume control I added, which may not be necessary. I believe it is a 50K or 75K pot. R250, which is removed for this, is in the same line of SMDs as the above.

Now a days it is difficult to gety a 2.5 and 3.5 combined plug.
As such i humbly feelt hat instead of chopping off, better we have a jack and plug (extension card assembly) and adopt it to original baofeng type (ebay) mic) regards sarma vu3zmv

They sell them on Alibaba and price isn’t even that bad. Only problem is that it is a pcb mount jack so that might cause some difficulties to mount it in a case.

ARRL Single Sideband for the Radio Amateur 1970 p193 et seq.
"An Engineer's Ham-Band Receiver" I've duplicated the PLL for another radio and copied ideas for radios I have built. They worked very well. Three reasons its not a fit for uBITx...... One: the MOSFets used disappeared in the late 70s. Two: Its a narrow band front end using varicap tuning, usually called a preselector. Lots of band coils. Three: is it would require much switching to take it out of the transmit path. Allison

Thanks Howard for the drawing, I also for myself drew it out last night from your description. A question is there any reason why you didn’t try connecting the 1 k resistor to the wiper on the volume control and is the cap needed?
Thanks Skip NC9O

Re: AGC circuit to try?
ajparent1 <kb1gmx@...>
Tim,
The image with three fets is a good circuit and works abut has one significant problem The input and output impedances are high at max attenuation. This would terminate the DBM and the low pass filter very badly. It does work at audio. BEst place for it would be between the product detector and RX preamp as it can also be the RX pop suppression and TX audio to RX audio path suppression. Again for RF you would have to switch it out of the transmit path or insure the TX attenuation was "minimum".... Unless you want to implement Transmit AGC as well. Allison

If you already HAVE the Baofeng mic, AND you are still in construction phase for your enclosure, why not set up the two jacks (Mic/PTT and headphones) at the correct spacing to just plug in the Baofeng as it is? Bob, N3FM

Re: Baofeng Microphones
I like your idea of an adaptor board instead of cutting off the connector. Has anyone made a small board with the double jacks on one end and a single plug on the other? Another note: my Baofeng speaker mike was of such poor quality that I bought an almost identical from Btech, QHM22, a much better product for $23.00 USD. The speaker is top notch and reports of my voice quality are very good now. So the Btech mike might be a better choice for the Bitx rigs too. Dave K8WPE

YW brand 2822
#ubitx
I just got my ubitx and looked carefully at the motherboard. A friend who got a ubitx a month ago had the top of the 2822 mildly explode when he powered it.
Mine has a socketed 2822 with this chip. http://veloliner.com/ham/yw2822socketed.JPG I was going to modify the circuit board if it had a wx chip. But would prefer not to if it isn't needed. google searched for the yw brand of this product with no joy.

I don't know the answer to either question - I just implemented Phillip's idea that was in his AGC adaptation. Here is a low-res photo of my connection at the board. Howard
