uBITX  ordered on 12-25-2017, received PayPal notice of item being shipped 2/20/2018, with DHL tracking number to US.  Expected delivery on Thursday 2-22, but with customs it probably won't be until Saturday or Monday.

rv2- messed up setting and txing like mad!!!

I was adjusting rv2 and rv3 , tried to measure voltage on gate pin then ubitx relay starts clicking and irf txing.

How do i safely measure gate voltage on board? Used multimeter probe on gate and common on earth of supply.

Think ive goosed it!

HI Group.
I am about 2 days away from placing the order with the manufacturer for these boards.
I would like to know what people are most interested in:
1: bare through hole PCB
2: bare SMD PCB
3: PCB + all TH parts(kit) self assembly.
4: Complete ready to run assembles tested and FW loaded.

Thanks.

HI Art,
No firm prices yet, But I dont plan on making anything out of this, just cover the costs and help out fellow BITX lovers...
Bare PCB I am aiming for $2 +$3 postage international, AUS will only be $1 shipping, all just preliminary costs...
Kit, I'm thinking $25 + postage, will be more as I cant use a flat envelope.... Might take awhile as I will have to source all the parts, Honestly you are better of just getting them locally/ebay...
Fully assembled, will have to look at the time, but maybe $30+ post... Same as above with times...

I am thinking I might order 10 of SMD and maybe 20+ TH, I want to build SMD, and the rest are forsale. and 10 HPF...

Re: Raduino Replacemnt, COMING SOON!

Jerry,

With the whole planet working on finding bugs, we are ‘Future Shocked’ with changes faster than anyone can get boards printed…

But, even agreeing with that….on ‘my’ order it didn’t matter if I ordered 10 or 20 boards….same price…I’ll take twenty….next time I might plug in 30 or 40….can always back out and sign back in….

I just thought I would pass on what I found, and how I react to something like that….

I can sit down with a lot of Hams to build AA’s….twenty of them to be exact, for they sent me 21 boards….so I have 10 kitted out right now, and I still have 10 boards for whatever….

And as far as waiting for rev01 or rev02….sometimes that happens, and sometimes it doesn’t….and that special fork might only come from board 21 in the hands of that person…

Had I not been passed someone's ‘spare' little green board on January 6, I surely wouldn’t have loaded up any Gerbers and plugged in 20….Karma….

I started with a Big Red Board, got passed a little green board, ordered me up some Big Green Boards….I surely don’t think it will end there….it might….I don’t care….I paid to play with Big Red Board….I am paying to play again with Big Green Board….you have to get on the Bus to Ride….sometime…rarely is it the same time as everyone else...

And wires on a little PCB? scary? My first electronics job was supersonic and carried nukes….and we added wires all the time….

Very seldom is a rev00 PCB without it's bugs.
Come to think of it, seldom does rev01 not have a wire or two.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the overwhelming interest.
I think at this stage I will offer the TH PCB only. I will build 1 or 2 complete boards to test, before making the PCB available...
If anyone would like to have another look over the board to check for errors that would be appreciated.

Hi Bill, maybe later.. Id have to re-design that section of the board. The main idea here is an easy to solder Raduino replacement... The AD8307 section is completely optional...

Re: Raduino Replacemnt, COMING SOON!

Jerry & Co,

I picked up a few ready 10-12$ boards that come with 5V regulator. Tacked it on the bitx40 board and
fed the output to the spare analog pin and wired the input to the last BiDi amp. I wrote a bar graph
into the nano to display the signal on the bottom line. Can even display in dbm.

The output is 0-2.5V while the nano is 0-5v, some maths needed in the code.

There is a greek ham who has oodles of kits and one is 8307 with an opamp to make the out 0-5V.
I got one but not tried this one..

Really fun toy, I recommend an analog 4-6" 50-200uA meter wired to read 0-2.5v will make a great
RF mV meter.

So input impedance is much lower than a diode RF probe, but high enough to probe the *Bitx* signal path without disturbing it much.
Minimum signal voltage the AD8307 can sense is around 0.1/56e-6 = 1786 times smaller than the diode RF probe.

Should be a really fun toy.

Re: Raduino Replacemnt, COMING SOON!

The AD8307 has an "incremental input impedance" of  typically 1.1k differential,
no min or max specified.  I'm not totally sure what "incremental" means here.
And not sure exactly what input impedance we will see when driving it single ended.

The maximum input signal allowed to the AD8307 when single ended is 16dBm
(top left of page 15, the "Input Interface" section).  I assume that's 16dBm into a
50 ohm termination, so 1.4 volts rms.

Let's assume the input impedance is near 1.1k when single ended, and we swamp out
any some of the uncertainty by adding a 1100 ohm resistor to ground at the AD8307 input,
so the input resistance is now around 550 ohms.

Now we add a 550*9 = 4950 ohm resistor in series with our signal source.  We can now
safely probe signals up to 14 volts rms, and they will see a 5500 ohm input impedance.
Sensitivity is one tenth what it was, so 0.56uV*10 = 0.56mV rms minimum signal.
This is what I would want when probing the *Bitx* signal path, except the transmitter output.

Perhaps another scaling resistor of 5500*9=49500 ohms for input signals of up to 140 volts rms.
This scaling resistor (or perhaps two resistors in series) could be permanently soldered near
the antenna connector.

Some might find reason to add a FET input amp or similar,
for a higher impedance input when looking at low level signals.

It is for these reasons that I was suggesting a prototyping area near the AD8307.

If exceeding 2 volts RMS, should have scaling resistors in front.  Input impedance is 1.1 kohms.

Make a suggestion to those ordering boards…don’t hold back when ordering…

I kept hearing $2 a board for these initial orders….and most were ordering 10 boards as a magic number and I heard costs of twenty bucks….well for grins I plugged in 20 boards on the improved AA boards….and it was $26.13 total...for 20 boards sitting in my lap in 5 days….didn’t seem to be much or any difference between 10 and 20 boards….just a thought….why not plug in a bigger number…
