Don - I'll try this - do you mean leave all the wires still plugged into the AGC board, but unplug the AGC board from the main PCB? And should I then jumper the two outside pins to "restore" the RF

Yes, please. Then un-jumper the header, leaving it open, and see if the feedback remains. Next step is to disconnect the S meter lead. Then short J1 to ground. If we can isolate the problem then we

Don, I have this effect after installing the AGC board. I hadn't done the twisted pair on the links to the volume pot so I did that. It almost knocked out the problem on 40 but still very noticeable

Very nice build. I plan on doing the same thing. I wanted something that fit in a backpack. I even have room for a 12v 7AH battery in the case.
