Did you remove the paint from all of the holes to insure good contact? Antenna jack, power, board mounting holes, jacks, case screws, etc. Twist your audio wiring together more as well.

Re: Nextion Question
Dennis
Thanks Evan,
I have downloaded the most current files (that you listed) and have uploaded first the sketches and then the hex files to see if there was any difference. The radio loses volume after these uploads and does not drive the Nextion. I really don't know what to investigate next. The radio works fine with the original software and display. BTW the last time I uploaded a hex file I had the original display plugged in and it worked just fine even though the file I uploaded was for the Nextion display. That really doesn't make sense to me. Regards, 73, Dennis W7DRW

Use a 2wire + shield cable between audio 8 pin plug and the volume control. The ground pin of VC can return back on the shield wire to the connector. But not to be grounded there at VC. Hope this method helps. Sarma vu3zmv

I have my radio in the chassis now, no more humming, but the radio stations are back. I can’t see any wires touching the chassis and the stations were there without the lid. And they are persistent no matter my tuning. Here are some pictures:

Re: uBitX as a Shortwave Receiver?
iz oos
In my opinion using it just as a receiver is a bit of waste. It's an excellent choice as a qrp transceiver, but a Tecsun portable receiver like a PL660 is just more convenient with synch detector, AM, excellent SSB, excellent AGC, and you have the AM Airband as well. And plenty of volume too.

Here is the link to the KD8CEC github for version 1.2 that has support for the uBitx v5:
https://github.com/phdlee/ubitx/releases/tag/v1.20 I believe that the Nextion tft files link is on this page: http://www.hamskey.com/2018/06/ubitx-with-nextion-lcd-cec-firmware.html Be sure to note the information in the v1.2 zip file that describes the different files in the archive. Hope this helps Evan AC9TU

Yep Curt, I may have to go that route, but I already have a nice case on the way. What I am trying to avoid is going to my junk box. Maybe somebody will have a spare. Dale

Here is another thought to explore. Many of us buy the case from amateurradiokits.in. Sunil also sells a companion set of harness. This may be the most turnkey approach. I like the end result. Curt

I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather get the harness and controls all made up. It is a pain to crimp molex connectors even though I have the tool. So, to get back to the topic; anyone have a spare harness and controls???

I wish there was some to disable the dimming mode of the nextion display, maybe contact nextion to see if this is possible?
because the choke dose not get rid of the noise completely!

Re: uBitX as a Shortwave Receiver?
Absolutely Mike! With the inherent stability of the uBITX it tunes nicely to the exact frequency, zero beat, and no problem in receiving AM. Actually, it is somewhat better since the selective fade is less troublesome when you aren't relying upon the carrier for demodulation. The narrow bandpass isn't bad, cuts down on the adjacent channel interference. I like the idea of being able to listen to MW broadcast as well especially while portable and for emcomm. Weather and news. Not so much for music. 73, Don

Re: kd8cec software
Bill Cromwell
Hi David,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Welcome. I have a Version 3 uBitX and I started using it completely unmodified. There is no need to make any modifications unless you want *more* and of course pay *more*. I made a modification to mine that tames the unbearably loud sidetone in the CW mode. If you don't use CW you can ignore that. The version has questionable harmonic suppression, I use external filters to make mine cleaner. That is not a mod to the radio but is a mod to operating practices. Except that I have always done that:) The recommendation is to get your uBitX (or any other kit) working as designed first and after you see that everything works pick and choose mods that might work for you. I use the CEC software but the radio itself is unchanged and can be returned to original by simply loading the original software. It sounds as though you like the bigger, color, touch display. I find the original display adequate. Enjoy your uBitX. Merry Christmas and... 73, Bill KU8H

The am content being mono in most countries, with ham's skill to be able to tune ssb, am listening on any side band is not a big issue. We may not need specific am or synchronus detector. As rightly pointed out bt Farhan, we may not get 10khz on medium and 5khz on shortwave. The audio I hear is reasonable for me. Sarma vu3zmv
