Richard,
I just noticed that in the schematic. I have made the connection but now there is very distorted audio. Did you have to adjust the power switch / volume pot on the v6 board as well?

Re: Tuning knob

Evan,

I only have a little MiniDSO 4 channel. It's this one here: https://amzn.to/32m1Qkr
Not an electronics guru. I don't use my little scoped that often so I'm not great with it, but I checked it with the DSO. I was getting very bouncy readings on one side of it. It was very random. The other I was getting a regular dip to zero as I turned the dial. So I'm guessing the encoder is bad.

Encoders look like they're cheap so I was thinking of ordering this pair of them from eBay: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&toolid=11800&pub=5575553925&campid=5338625465&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F2X-EC-11-Rotary-Encoder-Digital-Potentiometer-20mm-Knurled-Shaft-with-Switch-USA%2F382783349631%3Fhash%3Ditem591faa637f%3Ag%3AzG4AAOSweEFcYvuH
Will that one I linked work? If so I'll go ahead and order as soon as I hear back from you if that's the correct kind to get. One of the pictures in the auction listing shows a diagram with resistors in it. I'm assuming this is what you were talking about there.

I have several other Nanos, but they already have have headers soldered on the wrong side of the board. I'll have to get some more without the headers soldered on and solder headers on them. I'm really not the greatest at desoldering things, especially long rows of headers.

Dean,

My case isn't grounded right now. It's actually 6 seperate pieces of metal, so it will take me some work to get it all grounded well. This is the case I have: https://amzn.to/2HQEavb

The black part in my pictures (white if you look at the Amazon listing) is actually plastic. The front metal panel sits in the plastic. Same for the rear panel. The two plastic pieces on the ends are bolts to the bottom metal pan, and there are two metal rails at the top on each side. Then the metal cover that goes over the top and sides. It was blue and white like in the pictures on Amazon. I painted the plastic black and the metal pieces green.

I did put some star washers on each side of the volume pot and encoder to help it cut into the metal a bit. I'll have to figure out some ground straps or something to ground the different chassis pieces together.

Hi,

I just discovered this while searching for antenna information.

https://www.sciplus.com/quartz-crystal-antenna-48656-p

A genuine "Quartz" antenna. Looks like some rocks in a box to tie the ends of your antenna to so they won't blow away.

That would certainly work better than if your antenna was blown down by the wind and laying on the ground.  There must be a quartz tuner to go with this antenna, though.

Hi Evan, I forgot to mention in my post but all other bands rx and tx work  just fine. I'm sure I tried to zero beat 720 back when I was calibrating my V5. Just not receiving MW any longer.

Coverage is 3-30MHz!

Never tried to tune in MW band!

I just put mine together and ran into the same problem. I had to look at the schematic on their web site. It is P4, way in the left front corner.

What am I missing? _._,_._,_
The TX-RX LED is designed to show which *mode* the rig is in at the moment. There is no squelch circuit or AGC which could be exploited to give a 'signal present' indication.
It should be showing green whenever the rig is powered up and not transmitting.

I'll try messing with the baud rate and report back.

Yes and yes, CEC supports uBITX PTT out of the box. Perfectly. Pick your rig emulation and PTT over USB is implemented. It just works.

That’s what I was wondering.

The native baud rate for the Nano is 57600.  You can't change the PTT port baud rate, but can change the Radio Control Port rate. I wonder if they need to match?

Sorry that it has stopped working.  You have not given us enough information to point you in the correct direction to fix it.

Let's start simple:
do you hear static from the uBitx with the antenna connected, and nothing when the antenna is disconnected?

If so, then the audio sections are OK and we will need to go on to the RF and IF sections.

It would also help to know what type of test equipment that you have and what may have happened between the time it was working and now.

Let us know.

Hi again, I have suddenly discovered my V5 is not receiving our local am broadcast stations eg 720 882 etc. I am fairly positive it was before. I checked with my other Kenwood hf rig and the stations are transmitting.
What could be the problem?

Re: Any interest in uBITX Net

Evan Hand

Thank-you all for the information.  I am sure you are hearing the IC-7300 running 100 watts.  Not the real test we are trying to do.

I could hear others calling John (KO4BSW), but could not hear John at all.  I am sure there is an issue with my location and antenna in my attic.  I live in an HOA controlled neighborhood and cannot put up a decent antenna.  Even so, I have so much QRN and QRM that it would still be an issue.

The best connections I have had with the uBitx have been on 20 meters.  Seems that during the time that most of the noise is down is during the day, and 40 meters does not seem to propigate well using my antenna.

We can try again next Sunday.  I will also try to monitor at 3 Eastern during the week, though that will be spotty as I have a number of doctor visits and errands coming up.

Let me know of someone would like to try 20 meters.  Time and frequency.

Ian, KD8CEC's V1.2 code appears to have included PTT functionality from the FT-857.
https://github.com/phdlee/ubitx/releases

I see the same lines in Farhan's code as well, so my last was probably an error.

Line 8:   In addition, simple things such as FT-857 frequency control and PTT control can also be transmitted to the FT-857 protocol.
Line 172:   // Set PTT Mode
Line 732:     Inverted -> *ptt = ((p->tx_status & 0x80) == 0); <-- souce code in ft817.c (hamlib)
Line 839:     case 0x88:  //Set PTT Off

Not idea how to use this info, but I was happy to see PTT references in the code that appeared to be more than 'just' reporting the PTT status.
