Re: AUDIO FILTER

I have a version 4 and ran my audio feed directly into the sota beams dsp and then added an audio amplifier following the dsp. Version 4 has notoriously low audio output on its own. So, I suspect when using the dsp with version 5, you may need to insert the dsp in the audio chain prior to the final audio amp to prevent overdrive clipping.

After watching a talk on DSP I am considering trying it in my bitx.  One caution is  the level of audio required on the input.   I currently run one bitx with the NESCAF which is an amazing filter for CW but had to feed it with the audio output from the bitx.  We may need a stage of amplification ahead of the sotabeams DSP filter

V5 Rcv cuts out

andy@...

uBitx V 5.0 rcv cuts out. Click the PTT and it comes back. May stay or cut out again.
Poor relay suspected. hfd27/012-s is used for all.
Using relay for small signal is not always ideal as contacts actually do better when actually passing some current. This is an issue when using for switching low level audio as well.
I use 80 meters mostly so assuming its relTed to one relay.
Some hardware will "exercise" the relays by rapidly switching them on and off to "clean" them.
I have recovered relays on the bench with a 555 and driving them on and off at a high rate for awhile to recover them.
Old ts430 and 440 relays suffered the same woes especially if radio sits for a year or so at a time and not used.
I suspect old stock and vertually no current to get contacts working.  This is not uncommon.
Is there better relays? Omron?

I got the inductor put in today but I'm still experiencing a very high noise floor. I'll probably have to get out of town and try it away from so many people.

In my opinion, the bitx40 represents the all time best version. All attempts at additional circuitry detract. Indeed, with each additional circuit, the performance reduced 180dB in terms of both function and usability.

The demise of bitx40 production, is very sad, as this radio is awesome.

Seeing as bitx40 uses the same components, I don't see why the board is retired and now sold only by Sunil @ non preferred prices.

May the peace be with you

it seems to me that there is more concern in the name than in the project.

I don't know I'm a little puzzled.

AGC problems

Mike WA0YCN

I thought I had the AGC board that came with my amateurradiokits Nextion Case wired correctly, but although it seems to be managing gain level, I’m not sure. I noticed that as I adjust the volume higher, the S meter level goes up (as if it was a volume level meter).  I have the audio input of the AGC board wired to the connector labeled AGC V on the audio amp.  That wouldn’t seem to be correct since that Is essentially the speaker output from the ubitx (which would vary based on volume level). The instructions provided for the board indicate that the audio input connection should be to the high side of the volume pot, which makes sense.  However, when I try connecting there, it mutes my audio.

Would anyone be able to offer some assistance please?

Thanks.

Mike

I am going to reassure myself of yesterday. Today was much better, and I think exploring the bands at different times and the full range of my antenna has helped.
I had more luck with WSPR and also finally got some CW spots on the RBN.  My CW spots seem to be 200hz off of what I’d expect. Is this within what would be expected or should I be able to see spot on spots?
Thanks to everyone here who reads and replies to newbs like me!

Really nice work! There are a number of emitter followers in the power chain. Have you measured the IMD and gain? They usually tend to have worse IIP3 than the good ol common emitter FBAs.
