There is a free version of Diptrace, but it has some limits.

I love that "Drake" spinner knob. They are pricey on ebay, so I will need to make something similar.

Nice clean job overall!

Is there a schematic for this  AGC ? .. I've not been able to find one so far .

New uBITX on the air!

Mine arrived yesterday and assembly went fairly quickly.  I loaded the KD8CEC software and had a nice CW QSO with a W9 in WI who gave me a 579.  This was with the rig spread across my operating desk since I have no enclosure yet.  Plan to try wiring up an Icom HM-103 mic today so I can try SSB.  Also plan to put a Hi-Per-Mite CW filter I already had in line.

The only negative so far is that annoying pop.  I know there are mods to address it but which one is the easiest/best?

I checked into this AGC but it's pretty expensive to ship to the US - the dollar equivalent of £25.

Has anyone found anything similar here in the US? I can build one from scratch but I would prefer one nicely made up on a PCB.

Solution?  Use it until L-M tells you to stop. When/if they tell you to stop, stop. Done.

I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State and the US Olympic Committee was going after everybody who had "Olympic" somewhere in their name.  You can bet there are a lot of them. Some of them wrote back saying "Stuff it. Do it and we'll let the world know what asses you are." There are a lot of retired lawyers who live up here who don't have much else to do and that's why they shook their collective fists at the Olympic Committee. The AG of Washington also sent one of the retired lawyers a note telling them to keep him informed. The Olympic Committee found someone else's tree to shake.

HI Jim.
I'd like to add that these are my sentiments as well. I do this for the fun and for benefit of the community... Not to make a profit or out do others.

BTW, I like the features you have in your FW, I might give it a go on "my" board, Ive been using Ian Lees one with success...

HI All.
Boards arrived today, I will assemble one and test. Hoping to feed it into an audio spectrum analyzer to provide some idea of its exact performance/response. I will ship them out to folks who have ordered ASAP.
Might be a delay, we have an impending cyclone in the area and I've taken down my antenna, I'd like to test it in the uBITX with a real signal...

Thanks. Nick

AGC Added to uBITx

Philip

I have added audio AGC to my uBITx, its a kit board from Walford Electronics (G3PCJ).
Disconnected the yellow wire from the top of the Volume pot. Yellow wire to the input of the AGC board via a 10 K resistor.
Output to the top of the Volume pot. Removed R235 and connected top of C252, to top of the Volume pot via 1 K resistor and 0.1 microfarad in series  (Cap stops  DC on the input of the audio amp )
This now puts the CW side tone in after the AGC board.

I also replaced the TDA2822M with a LM380-8 will need a bit of jiggling with the pin connections. hint turn it upside down.
The LM380-8 will work from 10 to 18 volts, and has built in thermal protection.

Check your driver stage voltages against those given in the jpg in
message 43844.

See if they match at all.

What else could it be?  It seems likely whatever is causing our low
current draw with the PA bias at 0 is related to our low power
issue.  Are there any ICs I can check to see if they are getting
enough power?  I'm no EE, but I could certainly poke around with a
voltmeter if I knew where to look and what values are normal...

I would call this a scribe or a grinder. The point of a burin pushes a "v" of copper away from the surface--it literally lifts the copper out of the groove. There's an interesting video at https://youtu.be/MRFq5Y74TwY (fast forward to just before 5:00 mark) that shows how an image is engraved on a copper plate using a burin. Old, old, very old technology! The ivory carving tools look like diamond-coated rotary grinders. For removing small amounts of PCB, I've used inexpensive diamond-tipped battery operated scribers that I think I picked up at my local dollar store.

Everybody, take a drink.

I mean, this *is* a drinking game, right? Like, someone finally makes a political reference, take a drink? Something like that?

Hey Jim, I'm planning/scheming a possible Ubitx buy and construction so want to know about your hardware mods and such, as adding a keypad and TTS per KB1OIQ's files on the Facebook file are definite gotta haves, not to mention so so many other goodies on here :-)
