On the drawing in the video it shows the Raduino Pin #3 as +5vdc, but the main schematic it shows Raduino01 Jack#3 as blank and Jack#4 as +12vdc (no +5v on the Raduino01 jack). Do you know where I can pick up the +5vdc needed for the digi interface?

Let see if I understand the procedure. I go into calibration mode, at this point the frequency counter is not reading anything. Now if I  press the PTT switch, the frequency counter reads 10002002MHz. I make the adjustment to 10MHz. Then Release the PTT switch and press the PTT switch again? Then can I just power cycle the entire radio?

Bob,
The values are stored when you press the putt switch. You then need to power cycle the radio/Nano (unplug the Nano from any attached USB connection). It should then save the new setting. 


Secret is to power cycle the Nano.

The easiest thing is to simply measure the actual frequency put out by the crystal, and then adjust the software to expect that frequency.   

In most of Ashers code you can find the presumed crystal frequency stored as a constant.

I put out here once a simple Arduino sketch that drove the oscillator  to exactly it’s crystal frequency, so then measure it with your lab grade frequency counter and then adjust the constant in the software, recompile, upload, and you have an absolutely perfect radio.   In my case, I simply used a good ICOM 718 to measure that frequency by dialing it in with the icom 718, and then I inserted the correct crystal frequency into the code.  Perfect!

(However you may then need to adjust slightly he any offsets for BFO etc.)

Steve,
Glad it was a simple fix.

The firmware will not allow you to change the TX frequency while transmitting.  The reason it is in transmit mode is the pull-up resistor is missing on the digital input for the CW key.  That is the reason for the warnings to ensure that the resistor is installed before powering the mainboard with the Raduino connected.  It can go into TX mode.

The display looks good!

I would suggest that you start a new topic and not hijack Bob's topic for your problem.  You will also need to provide more information about the AGC add on that you purchased, as there are more than a few ways to do AGC on the uBITX.

I have used a frequency counter to verify my uBITX, though it was already calibrated using WWV.  You will need a way to connect the frequency counter to the uBITX.  A small wire as an antenna may work.  What I did was build a -45db tap to put in between the uBITX and a dummy load (wanted to use 10 and 20 MHz to test, neither of which are legal Ham frequencies in the US).

Your challenge will be to work out a new calibration setting, as it is not as simple as plugging in the frequency difference.  There was a spreadsheet that was posted in the files section that can help with the calculation.  I have not used it, so I cannot say how well it works.

My recommendation is to use one of the WWV frequencies, higher is better.

Strange. New SD Cards are already formatted. Small sizes are FAT32, like my 16GB ones. BUT I just reformatted one of them and put the PD5DJ 4.3" version (Same as CEC) on the blank uSD Card and it uploaded immediately to the Nextion. It's stuck in virtual TX atm. It's only connected to an Arduino Nano but no radio. I guess it won't tune (Rotary Encoder connected to A0 and A1 (push switch to A3)) but no radio yet as I don't have one! Haa. Was scratch building but I might get the bare kit when the World is back to normal!

Glen,
I do not have either a v6 uBITX nor the Funtronics kit (though I just ordered one).  The following is my interpretation of the diagram in the video and the schematics of the v6 uBITX/New Raduino.

You should have gotten an audio 8 pin connector that is not used in the full kit v6.  The wire colors should match the wire colors on the drawing 1:00 minute into the video.  The digital connector is attached to the tuning control for the v6.  The color wire may have been cut back, in which case you will need to remove the pin from the connector and replace it with a pin crimped to a longer wire.  You might get lucky, and have enough wire on the digital connector to splice in the 5 volt power connection.

The Audio and Digital connectors are the same for all models since the v3.  The v6 moved all of the analog controls to the mainboard and kept the external 8 pin connector.  The digital connector on the Raduino is the same as well, however, the encoder used for tuning and function press is prewired.  The other digital control lines were routed through the new Raduino to Mainboard connector, and the CW key and PTT signals connected to the 3.5 mm TRS jacks on the mainboard.  The other digital lines were kept on the connector, just not used there.  I  have also assumed that the wire colors have stayed the same.  You should verify that before you wire it up.

Well, yes . . sort of. I bought 4 new 16GB SANDISK uSD Cards a few weeks ago. They were all formatted FAT32. On one I put the ubix_43.tft that's actually 2.4". Then the files marked as from PD5DJ on another new card. I've now put the CEC 1.2 on the Arduino and have real frequencies on the display . . . . . but 2/3rds size! I'll re-format a diferent Card and try it again.

If I remember correctly, I had the Baud and Update message when the SD card was not formatted correctly.  Are you using the same card as the one that transferred the file that worked?  If not, then you could try reformating the SD card.  That worked for me,

Hi Rick,Thanks for the info. I tried a few more times but no joy. Also tried a few other files but just got "incomapable with this LCD". I know there is a working Nextion 4.3 tft because I've seen pictures of at least two uBitx 5's and/or 6 with this display. I'll justkeep at it!

using a 60 watt incandescent is not presenting a 50Ω dummy load and you are risking blowing up the pa mosfets.
Build a proper dummy load with a few resistors., e.g. to get an idea


We used to use incandescent bulbs way back when most transmitters had a pi network at the output stage but not now with transistors / mosfets PA's.
