I'm afraid I'm at a loss joel,
I want to ask you to short the RFIN and Out with a jumper, Remove the Volume wire and put the switch in the off position just to make sure that its the agc (effectively/permanently remove it from the circuit) If the radio springs back to life we can work on getting you a new one agc!
We do want to say apologies for the inconvenience with over 400 units sold we know of 3 other accounts where for some-reason it "just did not work"

Morris,

I had the same problem with my 2.8 Nextion. Try

"UBITX_Nextion_GUI_V3\ubitx_28.TFT".

Make sure it is a TFT file and not an HMI file. There are others that will work but try this one first.

So at this point we have a replacement unit pulled to the side for you out of the latest production batch if that is what it comes to again thank you for taking the time to poke at it to try to find out whats wrong!

Can you check that the unit is getting 12v Power and 5v power as marked.

I am confused and concerned as to why its not making any difference when the AGC is in the off position and the RF in/Out are shorted which would be equivelent to the AGC removed.  I have marked the off position as well just for clarification.

problem loading nextion firmware model mismatch

Morris Ford

Trying to load nextion firmware on a 2.8 lcd. The load is saying that the model in the firmware and the model of the lcd don't match. Is that a known problem? I have double checked that I have the right firmware and the device is truly a 2.8. The difference between the two is that the firmware model number has R at the end and the device does not.
Any ideas.
Thanks

Everything seems to be in order, How interesting.
Can you get the voltage off the S-Meter pad for me? with a signal present and with the antenna disconnected?

Last thing to check before i'm going to start blaming a bad component.
This will tell me

Did you short the Common to Ground on the switch pads? Just leaving it open is actually setting it to a SUPER SLOW agc motion and will give you even weirder results.
Can you show me where the yellow V wire is soldered as well :)
Sorry for the multiple picture requests here, just hard to see whats what when we are not present :) thanks for sticking through the process here!

Tim,

It doesn't make any difference where the switch selection is, the audio sounds the same. Attached is the best picture I can take.

Just jumping RF In/Out wont remove the agc from the circuit, It has a shunt element that would still be active :) IN order to remove the shunt element as well you would need to put the switch pads into the OFF position which will remove any bias from the Shunt FET making it high impedance/inactive.

If doing that does not make a difference I will have to ask for a better quality picture of the board so we can triple check solder work, David does an awesome job but sometimes a mistake slips through. And sometimes the 7002's break during soldering/handling we have had a non 0 amount of these in the past.

Let me know how that goes!

Yes I did, with a exacto knife. i made sure there was no continuity between the the two traces after the cut. Strange thing is, I can short between the RF in and the RF out and there is absolutely no difference in volume. You would think if the AGC board was dragging the level down that would eliminate the board.

From the quality of the picture all looks right,
Lets check a few things! Did you cut the RX trace that is now underneath the AGC board?

HI Joel,
Can you send us some pictures of your installation? Low volume can be caused by a few things, Most notably a bad RX path or A bad RX gain pot setting.

Hi Tim,

I'm sure Joel, the OP won't mind me hijacking his thread, he is my brother in law:-)  I installed the AGC board today and noticed that the volume is very low now, in fact I have to crank it all the way up to hear much at all. It is installed on a V3 board. I didn't use a switch for AGC speed, I just jumped it to Fast position. I also installed the V lead to the high side of the volume control. Other than that I can't think of anything else that could be causing this. Any ideas?

In my opinion using it just as a receiver is a bit of waste. It's an excellent choice as a qrp transceiver, but a Tecsun portable receiver like a PL660 is just more convenient with synch detector, AM, excellent SSB, excellent AGC, and you have the AM Airband as well. And plenty of volume too.
