Need Help Troubleshooting Raduino on BITX40

JD Hill

Good day all. I have been working on a BITX40 that I purchased earlier this year, so I am certain it is the newest version.  The rig turns on and the display and frequency tuning seem to be OK, however the function switch does not function so that I can do any of the functions to calibrate, etc. The switch is new and even shorting the orange wire going to he switch to ground does nothing.

Have I possibly got a programming issue or possibly a bad Raduino? This is my first time working with an Arduino of any kind, so I am learning as I go. I really want to get this rig up and running. I plan to use it mostly for CW but I may dabble somewhat with the digital modes.

I will really appreciate any assistance I can get.
Thanks in advance.

uBITX V5 not working PTT #ubitx-help

Varga Tamás

Hello all!

I would also have a quick question. I built an ubitx V5. My problem with it next is when I want to switch to trasmititng with the small micro switch nothing happens. If, on the other hand, I press PTT on a USB cable with Pocket RXTX software over USB, it switches to transmiting immediately.

My question is , is there any other place where the PTT switch is available besides the pin 5 of the contorls connector (ORANGE wire) and the GND (BLUE wire).

I would like to ask if I put a switch between the spindle pin 16 (T / R) and GND, would it work as a PTT switch?

That is, if you look at the PTT switch, the orange wire of the VFO panel and the 8 pin audio connector (blue wire) of GND. However,
if I short this then there is no switch to transmit. Measurements made so far: -GND, ie blue cable to orange cable in RX mode is 4.75V. when I press the switch, the high mark on pin 16 of the mainbord does not appear. Amin is also 0 V by default. - But if I use software PTT on my phone via the arduino CAT cable, it switches to 5V and goes to TX mode. I also include arduino switching. here is in PDF http://www.hfsignals.com/index.php/ubitx-wire-up/ My question is, where do you think I can take the PTT linkage off?
So do you think I could do an additional circuit or something to make physical PTT work?

Sorry, my English!

Tnx and 73's Tamas

Check the transmit relay, what are you using to turn TX on?

Did you purchase a case from another vendor?  If so, then which one, as they are wired differently and most likely is either a wiring issue or something with the add on boards the case supplier adds to the rig.

If installed per the stock wiring, then I would first verify that you are getting 12 vdc to the PA (brown wire on the 3 pin power connector).  If so, then I would verify that K1 is switching. and then K3.  I would also try CW mode to verify that it is in the PA part of the rig.

All of the above assumes that the receiver is working.

Good luck and welcome to the group.

Yes, significantly better.
One very useful feature is the ability to tune component values using a slider for both frequency domain and time domain simulations.
Being a more complex program does mean it has a steeper learing curve

Is this better than LTSpice?

100% agree Dave

1. must run well 100% in original edition

then all further - step by step. I think Jean has recognized this..

(I worked in a Hard/Software developing team...) so I know its totally logical.

Many thanks Didier for the info
Do you think it is a good idea to solder two sockets for later use.
When I checked continuity there is a dead short between both pins, but that is maybe because of the inductors ??

I would highly recommend that you put your radio together completely stock. Verify that it works.

I have bought a number of used μBITX, very cheap because they were modified and made not to work before even applying the smoke.  At that point the assembler was lost.

I have had a 2.4, 2.8, 3.2 and 3.5" screens  Everey time I got a bigger one it worked better a touch screen. The 2.8 and 3.2 are the same height. I found that the  the Indian case mounted the display too low and their daughter board all but touches the bottom of the case.

Sorry for always replying so late - it's not so easy for me to free up some time for the hobby.

I have changed the resistors now (10k in the TX path) and also installed some 3,5mm output jackets to be able to also use an external sound card:

TX seems to work now with my cheap 3 € soundcard , I can send out signals and I am getting heard on WSPR. Problem is that with this sound card I can't receive WSPR signals - nothing gets decoded,
though the signal seems okay in level and on the waterfall.

With an external 10 € sound card I am able to decode WSPR signals, but I can't send. The audio level is just not high enough. I changed the vox resistor to 1 k which enabled RX-TX switching,
and changed the TX-resistor to 1k - but I still get only 5W instead of 10. I guess I should not go lower. Its loug enough when i use headphones.. I still need to investigate a little.

Re: Testing Crystal Filters maximum dbm

Current one too!

Just connect a short cable between in and out and check reading on SNA mode. It should
read -20dbm. If not change R20 to suit.

JackAl - Teensy Audio - switch inputs? #ubitx #jackal

Rob French (KC4UPR)

Quick question on the JackAl board, mainly because I'm doing something with Teensy and the audio board too...

Does the JackAl board switch the inputs on the Teensy when going between Transmit and Receive?  I.e. in the Teensy software, does it change the audio board (SGTL5000) input from LINE_IN to MIC_IN when it switches to transmit, and then back to LINE_IN when it goes to receive?  Looking at the schematic, I think it's implying that, but I'm not positive.

Why I ask:  in my project, I'm using L channel for Rx audio processing and R channel for Tx audio processing.  LINE_IN and LINE_OUT.  But, I had thought about using MIC_IN for the electret mic input, and LINE_IN otherwise.  I also thought this might allow me to use some of the Audio Board's built-in DSP processing (e.g. auto-volume, equalizer), rather than doing all of the DSP in the Teensy.  But I wasn't sure if it could switch inputs quickly enough?

Thanks!
-Rob
