Hi Sourav, did you already managed to get it working in full screen? Having the same 'problem' here.

Ubitx V5 board and holes sizes

Adrien F4IJA <adrien.grelet@...>

Hi there,

I'm waiting for my board to arrive but I'm already on the design of the case and everything else.

I'd like to take a chance an prepare the box before the board will be there so I ask your support if possible.

I've found on GrabCad a cad file of the ubitx board, and here are the sizes I have :

Could a nice owner of a V5 board could confirm those measurements to be sure they are accurate ?

Thank you a lot !

I have used it as the Computer controllable VFO for a Heathkit SB – 100 vacuum tube radio and it worked well.

Using the Raduino with other QRP radios

Dennis Yancey

I was wondering if anyone has tried using the Raduino as a VFO to replace the crystal on some other QRP radios to replace the crystal like the Rockmite II, the 49er and other small minimal power QRP rigs?

Any ideas? Think the Raduino output will need a small buffer amp? Love to hear your thoughts.

I have used  Raduinos as a general purpose VFO on many radios. It works quite well.

I assumed you have tried adding a new font (of your choice) to the nextion editor and using it?

You can even try 4 line display ith kd8cec firmware.

Here is the link to the 3.5"
https://www.itead.cc/wiki/NX4832K035

As you can see the normal current draw is 145 ma

The 3.2" display is not that much smaller and draws 85 ma. :

I would not give up the functionality unless you were really looking for ultimate portability.

May well be.  The audio is too low for the speaker to be of any use.  I recently was able to pick K6MYC from CA who usually comes booming in at 10 or 20 over S9, using headphones.  I will be using powered speakers with it and that should help somewhat.  However I suspect it could be more sensitive....just doesn't feel like it is solely an audio issue.  Given there is iimited alignment functionality not sure how to progress that.  Also very hard to find a decent USB signal in Australia atm with propagation so poor.  It has been awful here for the last week. Re: Nextion 3.5 current draw?

Yes, that's actually the current draw for the nextion.  Also, the larger the Nextion, the more current it draws.  That's pretty much the same for all the color touch screen displays, even those that are non Nextion.

TSW, in choosing our color touch screen displays for the BITeensio card (much faster than a Raduino with the NANO processor) and it uses the 2.8" or 3.2" ILI9341 based color touch screens.  We also can use the RA8875 based 5" displays, but there the current draw at 3.2V is around 750 mA and if you don't use lots of cooling air on the separate 3.2" regulator's big heat sink, it won't last very long so the largest display we fully support is the ILI9341 in 3.2" size.  It draws about 140 milliamps with the backlight on full and is still well within the capability of the onboard 3.2V regulator of the Teensy 3.6 MPU.  The nice thing about the 2.8 and 3.2" ILI9341 displays and our BITeensio card is that you can use either display interchangeably without changing software.  Depending on which of the displays you have, you might have to change cables to switch from the 2.8 to 3.2" displays though there are several out there that use the exact same connector on both the 2.8 and 3.2 versions.

The BITeensio can also handle both V4 and V5 uBITX radios with a menu selected change and calibration data is saved for each so if you should need to switch it between the two types, all you need do is touch up the calibration at the time you change.  No separate memory manager OR computer connection is required other than for reprogramming the Teensy 3.6 when needed or if you want to use CAT control.

See the Triumvirate Skonk Worx (TSW) website, www.w0eb.com/Page2.html for details on the BITeensio board kits.  (We don't supply the Teensy 3.6 or the display - that's up to the kit builder to decide).  There are other items on the TSW pages of interest to uBITX radio owners as well.

Hi Jeff,

Glad you resolved the issue.

My V3 uBitx is as sensitive as my FT817 with the preamp off.

Could this be a perceived effect of the relative lower audio chain gain of the V4 units, or is it that faint signals are heard on other radios but are "lost in the noise" on the uBitx?

Re: Nearly non-existent output power, no mod

barry halterman

The nano had a bad output pin that selects txa, b or c  relay driver. I don't recall which one but it kept one filter always selected, like if on 20 meters the 80 meter filter was constantly inline. Thus, little to no power from the finals for anything above 80 meters. IC for the finals was normal and they got hot but no power out.
Replacing the nano corrected the issue.

Hi Barry,

Why was your nano selecting the wrong filter?  This doesn't seem like a typical problem -- at least I've not seen a lot of such reports here.  Were you using factory firmware, or something else?

Nextion Diisplay Fonts

Has any worked out a way to display a properly kerned variable width font on the Nextion display. The standard font spaces poorly and generally results in using a smaller size than I'd like.

Thanks and 73,

New wiring diagram version

Hi all,

Just FYI, I added a higher resolution SVG version of the ubitx wiring diagram to the wiki assembly page.  I always had a bit of trouble reading the existing version, even if I used the larger size PNG image; so I added this SVG version in case anyone else had trouble like I did.

There's such a lot of detailed information on the very nice wiring diagram that W4RJP did!

73 and cheers!

Thanks Dave and John.  Yes I think the BFO was the issue. Actually got onto that  a few days ago.    Also found if I turned on the attenuator and it went away.  Reset the BFO and seems ok now.  I do notice that it is not very sensitive on receive compared to any of my other radios.  Wonder if that is just how it is?

cheers Jeff VK3GMO
