Download the v1.2 binaries and read the document on file naming conventions to find the 20x4 file you need to flash.

I have not found a manual after v1.072

Is I2C a different screen or different way to talk to the same screen?

What a fun new adventure..

Thanks David and Dexter for your good effort and time.
Unfortunately nothing seems to work and I do not understand why the good souls at HFSignals do not fix this since it seem to be a well know problem.
Meanwhile they keep selling this kit without the fix. And that is not right (in my book).
The pops are really loud. I mean it - really loud. These are not just "innocent little clicks" these are really loud pops.
Well, love it or leave it, right?!

Known problem since Bitx40. The Arduino takes  more current to make its change, creating a current spike on the power rail. The cure is to absorb some of the power drop in the Raduino's 5V regulator leaving it some 'headroom' to actually do its job (it's typically run close to its maximum power rating). Typically a 5 (4.7 or 5.6) ohm resistor does the trick: it needs a 3-watt rating. Put that in series with the Raduino's 12V supply, with a 100uF 16V electrolytic capacitor to Earth (0V) across it at the Raduino. That way the 100uF Cap supplies the energy rather than the whole supply, so that main supply is not drained for that brief instant. (Theory for the advanced: a 500uS RC filter).

Bill, I've finally had a chance to get on my laptop. For the 20x4
display, these are the relevant files from the CEC v1.2 binaries.

UBITXV5_CEC_Vxxxxx_20P.hex : 20x04 Parallel LCD
UBITXV5_CEC_Vxxxxx_20P_S.hex : _20P with I2C Meter

UBITXV5_CEC_Vxxxxx_20I.hex : 20x04 I2C LCD
UBITXV5_CEC_Vxxxxx_20I_S.hex : _20I with I2C Meter

I2C is a two-wire serial bus some people switch to in order to free
some Arduino pins. It sounds like you dont have an I2C panel so you
would want the first firmware on the above list. "I2C Meter" is used
by the CEC S-Meter circuit discussed on the CEC website.

The v1,2 binaries are here:
https://github.com/phdlee/ubitx/releases/download/v1.20/uBITX_CEC_V1.200.zip

Enjoy!

John,
is this a BitX40 or a ubitx?

If Bitx40, which software version is installed (version number shown on the LCD at power on)?
If it's still the original v1.01 software, upgrading to the latest v1.28.1 may fix it, download it from https://github.com/amunters/bitx40
Again: this works only for Bitx40, not for ubitx!

ubitx v2 using speaker-mic - brief feedback when hit PTT

David Feldman

My homebrew ubitx project is based on the v2 design (so it's very similar around the audio stages except for a couple of added components to enable a "one wire" electret mic hookup).

I tried using a speaker mic (built-in electret element and speaker; the PTT switch completes the electret element path to enable PTT). When the electret element appears in the mic input path, a PNP transistor switches the ubitx to transmit state.

Here's the issue - when I hit PTT on the speaker mic, I get a brief (maybe 100 mSec) feedback - high pitched audio oscillation. If I use a separate mic and speaker, the feedback/oscillation doesn't happen at all. It only happens at the beginning of transmit; when I release the PTT on the speaker mic, no oscillation.

I suspect this is because both (rx & tx) audio paths to the balanced modulator are powered up for a moment. C52 (47 uF at the low level rx audio amp Q70) and C64 (47 uF at the mic amp Q6) would seem both to allow a short period of "opposite state" power to their respective circuits based on RC time constants involved.

Has anyone tried a speaker mic with ubitx, or had this (feedback) issue?

Thanks,

Dave

Nextion dislplay

R Blackman

Hello to group
I have burned a CEC  v1.1 hex file into a bare Arduino Nano, and uploaded a  Nextion ubtix_35.tft file
into my 3.5" Nextion display, as an experiment before performing surgery on my radio.
The GUI only fills 2/3 of the display, it does not fill the entire screen from edge to edge.
Is this a normal presentation?  everything else (' touch'  etc works OK)!

Thanks for any reply

Hi Richard,

Please search 'Ted'. You'll find a tft file that has been expanded to full size. The file you have is basically for testing.

Sajeesh,
A few of us are working offline to sort out some software bugs and production issues. It should be on sale very soon.

Hi Allard, Thanks for your post.
Mine is the latest.I just bought it. I'll continue trying to fix this, we'll see.... :)

Re: pop click pop on tuning BITX40

Alan de G1FXB

John,

Allard asked which model you brought.
There is the ubitx and bitx40 both currently on sale.

Your post https://groups.io/g/BITX20/message/69718 you state "
my software Version is V5 (latest?)." but have put bitx40 in the subject line.
Bitx40 software should NOT be V5
It would be helpful for you to confirm exactly what you have.

regards Alan

Well, I found the  "Ted"   ubitx_35B7.tft and now the display looks great!
Appreciate the help.
Next step:  surgery on the radio to install the Nextion.

Many thanks

Hi Richard, That doesn't sound like the correct file. Have you verified some of the menu items? If you touch on the bottom left box that shows the cw info, you'll go to the main menu. Make sure your other screens are at proper size. If not, the link below will take you to the direct download.

Anyone have a reasonable source for single units of black bezels for the Nextion?   3DHubs offers it for $6 but for 1 piece there is a $30 setup.  Would anyone like to go into an order together?

I got my 5” bezel printed from a site called Sculpteo. I paid $19 for it. $25 with shipping. I used a bezel design from someone that posted it here.  Memory fuzzy. But I ordered it from another place before and they canceled the order because the mount holes were too close to the edge and the company though it wound break during the finishing process.  Bunch of wimps. Lol
