Re: Abandoning my uBitx Ver 3

No reason to stop now, when all is said and done we might be at v20. I got a dollar on it. 😉

Btw, I got a V3 and a big case with the 5” Nextion on the way. Its going in its new home. I think we have the right mods now to tame the v3, so I will be giving it a go soon, I already have some work in addressing some of the problem areas. I don’t have a scope so I can only follow instructions that guaranty a improvement. I could probably ghetto rig my SDR and spectrum analyzer program and get a reference of my transmission.

I can now report the the AGC board works great with the V5 board. I got it installed tonight and works like it should.

Thank you

Looking forward to your results as well! Our hope is that it is still drop I'm compatible with the V5 board and from the pictures we have seen it should be. However like any honest person we definitely want to make sure that it is right before advertising it as such!
During installation on the V5 if there are any questions please just ask!!!

Maybe a v6 will come out in a year or so, maybe never.
For now it is just vague speculation on the part of forum members.
Nothing has ever been said about anything beyond v5 by either Farhan or HFSignals.

The Bitx40 with Raduino first came out in Dec 2016.
It still ships now the same as it did then.

Hello Sascha,

Glad you got it to work. All thanks to your persistence.

Enjoy, and please let us know how it works in practice with the uBitx, it is an interesting solution.

All the best,

Thanks Folks, Curt, I have time tomorrow to take the cover off and
debug some more.
Will report Back.

I tried to reproduce when I first saw it on 20 by repeating the test
on 80, 40, 17 and 15 and did not see it.
However to be honest did not spend a lot of time on the other bands as
I operate 40 and 20 based on my current Antenna setup. For sure its
not there on 40m.
The G5RV needs repair and I have no appetite to go out in the New
England winter and fight with it. :)

I also grasp your observation that its mostly on one band. On 20m try touching L5 and other toroids to see if they are in the act. Then try another band. We should never assume we are experiencing the same thing as someone else reported, yes I have been guilty here in the past.

Problem solved.  A friend loaned me an original display. I loaded the factory software into it and it worked just fine.  Thanks K0MBT for all your help.  Now I just wait on my QRPGuys antenna to arrive. Should be here tomm or Tues.

HEUREKA -

It finally works!!!

John, that was the solution - the 1k Resistor in the TX line of the loop controller circuit.

I was a bit afraid of bridging it first , soI changed it to a much smaller value - and finally the voltage dropped low enough so
that the Raduino was able to recognize, decode and answer the incoming signal.

Thanks a lot for your help! I had not really been optimistic that I would be able to make it work. Your insight and advice really made the difference!

And thanks Gary also for your note. That had been one of my first steps, changing the the RX and TX lines.

you were right on Ted. I searched for the V1.12 software and it took a little bit but found a Beta version. I uploaded and the radio is working for me now. I had thought that I had the latest CEC software for FW and didn't know to or how to search for it till you gave me something to look for.
Thank You

Bill

Glad you are still building with the challenge.

On QSX, I found the QCX to be quite dense. Labels too small out of necessity for space. No problem. I matched part locations from screen to board with Hans fantastic documentation.

On ubitx, it can be modified with minimal change to the board.  The gotcha now is few kits to make the fixes, until some merchants emerge. My ubitx has only a relay daughter board, a little LC filter and now a simple AGC. I might even stop with these.

Enjoy your journey.

It is but not as visible.

If the output filters are less than correct it gets worse.   Also if you pushing
power the LPFs will show heating effects remember 10W max even then
your pushing it.

CW mode is a square wave driive so the harmonic content like previously
discussed is about 20db greater than for SSB not push to clipping

Thanks a lot Allison
Just wondering why the same heating issue is not there on other bands.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the Ultimate3S kit.

QSX... huge project... I'm working on it every day and making steady progress. Thanks for waiting. The wait will be worth it. I'm posting details as I have them, on the QSX page http://qrp-labs.com/qsx

I do not have pictures, however I have seen just the reverse:  When first keyed, the spurs appear, then fade as the transmitter remains on.  This is with or without an audio signal.  Suggesting that something is changing as the circuits warm up?  Thing is, I have seen this every time, even after letting the rig on for a period of time.  I at first attributed to an issue with the SDRPlay SA, and that may still be the case,  After reading your post, not so sure.

Re: v5 board original FW

Evan Hand

Thank-you Laurence!

This was not for me, rather for mrjohnac that requested the "FW" for the version 5 uBitx.  I assumed that FW meant Firm Ware, and I added that it was not a straight download, rather an Arduino sketch file that would need to be compiled.

I will look into putting this into the files/wiki sections of the group.  There really is no easy way to find the information, unless you have run into it before (I had saved the link to the GitHub repository when it came out from Ashhar).  Doing a search on either the posts, files, or wiki I did not find the v5 firmware listed.  Same with using the link on HF Signals: sent to the version 4 software.

All this makes it difficult for the newcomer to the uBitx.  What is really needed is someone to take on the task of keeping the site up to date.  I am not sure if there is a single person who takes on this role.  I would think that at least for the basic stuff, like when new versions go into production, that the task would be done by someone affiliated with HF Signals (maybe someone who has it as a part time paid job?).

If I am incorrect in the above statements, then please shed light on where I am wrong, so that others can gain from the knowledge.

Again, thank-you Laurence for posting the .hex files!  It is volunteers like yourself and others that are at least keeping this afloat. Now we need to post the program and process to download it to the uBitx.
