I'm compiling, uploading and running v1.070 and I still have one  issue.

I suspect I must have a calibration problem, because in order to achieve a 600Hz CW TX off-set (to match my external 600Hz AF filter) I have had to hard code the call in <ubitx_20>  at line 647

si5351bx_setfreq(2, frequency - sidetone + 150) ;

I have checked the TX frequency with a my frequency counter and it is definitely off-set from RX by nearly 800Hz when <sideTone=600>, and is correctly offset with my addition of 150.

If I just change the value of the variable <sidetone = 450>, the TX offset is then correct but the audio tone frequency is way too low for comfortable listening on RX.

With <sidetone = 600> the audio sounds perfect, however the extra 150Hz TX offset applied by the call <si5351bx_setfreq(2, 600)> takes the received signal outside the passband of my external AF filter.

Can I change/calibrate one of the program parameters/variables to achieve the same end?

I am wary of doing anything via the calibration menu without being sure of not doing something irretrievable. Eg calibrating BFO could have implications I am unaware of, as this is not the simple BFO of which I am familiar from my 1960s analogue receiver days!

The problem was the same with earlier firmware versions (eg v1.061) so am I correct to assume that this is a hardware issue requiring calibration in some form?

Hi sarma.

 

I’m sure I have the polarity correct.  Someone on this list posted a drawing showing how to identify the negative terminal and I wired according to it.  I think the electret mic wouldn’t work at all if polarity were reversed.  What is being powered is an  F E T source follower.   I think I shouldn’t have to raise my voice to get 5 watts output on 40 meters.

 please check whether the mic body is connected to chasis ground.

i mean the positive bias voltage for mic should come on independent pin and NOT to the body pin of the eletret element.

In case you are using a dynamic mic, perhaps we need more gain and your need to shout appers logical.

I had grabed a taperecorder mic with 3.5mm mono pin.
 replaced the cable with 2+shield.had a small pushed switchmounted and wired.
 repalced the 3.5mm momo pin to stereo pin. Here is a image of my mic.The pp9 battery helps to imagine the mic size.

I have the ubitx.  Thanks for the suggestions.  I see two trimming pots on the board but I haven’t touched them because I have no idea what they do.  It appears from your message that one is for adjusting the drive.  What is the other one for?

From board to board there will always be some variation of gain.

You can increasing the mic gain by reducing the resistor

BITX40 - R123
uBITX - R63

You could try the mic gain control I described recently.

You could also increase the drive

Max your uBITX has three trim pots on it. Two are blue square unit labeled RV2 and RV3 these are together on the board and adjust the bias to the finals. The third one is RV1 which adjusts the drive level. There are instructions in the the file section on the group site to adjust the bias pots which may help improve your ssb output if yours isn’t set high enough.
Try searching the archives to learn about it and the pitfalls you might encounter.

As a follow up to my post about this heat sink, I did some testing of digital Tx'ing into a dummy load yesterday as I think I have my digital interface set up the way I want.  I did not use anything to test the temperature other than touching the MOSFET and heat sink and going by feel.  At a full 7 watts out nothing got more than just barely warm at FT8 cycles running for about 15 minutes.  At WSPR timing both the IRF510 and heat sink got hot enough I was double checking the junk box to make sure I had a few spare IRF510's.  Bottom line, I think this heat sink is ok for occasional FT8 operations at full power (which was all I wanted it for) but if WSPR is your flavor of choice you'll need to crank the power way down.  All in all I got what I wanted for about 73¢.  I should also mention that although it is hard to tell in the picture the MOSFET is fully sitting on the silicone pad.  I lined the pad up with the heat sink overlooking the fact the the IRF510 is angled coming off the board.  Fortunately the pad was wide enough to accommodate my error.

Twiddling the bias pots is dangerous, can easily blow the IRF510's.
The bias pots get set at the factory for around 100ma of drain current
as described in the tuneup section on hfsignals.com.
Output will become more non-linear as those bias pots get turned down,
and quiescent transmit power consumption goes up as they get turned up. 
Not much of an effect on power out.  I suggest you not mess with them.

The drive pot at RV1 on the uBitx does directly affect power out,
also the resistor in the mike amp that Raj pointed out for you.

Be aware that too much drive to the final will splatter all over the band.

I do not know about your External Filter. But I know that you are doing a great job to improve your uBITX.
If you have a spare time, please introduce your External Filter. I want to make it.
I do not have much experience with such things, so I do not know if it will be the right answer.

I think there are three ways you can solve your problem.
1.Adjust the Master Calibration.
  If you use uBITX Manager, do not worry.
  Before making any adjustments, uBITX Manager can back up your uBITX information to a file.
  If you have a backup file, your uBITX can be restored at any time.

  I think you can lower your Master Calibration value a little.
  If you let me know the reference frequency (EX: 7.02Mhz, 14.03Mhz ...) you used to measure in the frequency counter, I will give you a calculation.
  If you send me your uBITX backup file, I can look into it more closely.

I'll skip it, Because you measured the 150hz error clearly through the instrument.
2.Adjust BFO
3.using split 

 Also, if you prefer to modify the code rather than the calibration setting, add 'calibration = calibration - 00000' to the end of the initSettings () function.
 Instead of 0000, try increasing the value in small increments.

And I'm sorry to interrupt Rod's work with too many changes in functionality.

1.072 will be tested and will be released as 1.073 Beta.
Several minor ones have been added.
Please wait for a day or two to download the code or firmware. 

Perhaps 1.07x will continue to be a Beta version.
Frequent formal firmware release seems to be inconvenient for some people, so I try to release it after various tests.

I think Version 1.061 is a stable version. I know there is some nice firmware based on Version 1.061 and I will install it on my Spare uBITX.
Version 1.061 and later versions are also based on Version 1.061.
The Portable version and the various language versions are all excellent Firmware and I share code with them.

Please wait for a day or two , I'll release version 1.073 beta after testing in various environments (including Linux).

Finally made some SSB contacts! #ubitx

I took my time getting the radio to the stage where I felt comfortable using it.  I took apart a non-functioning $2.00 Chinese Baofeng mic and replaced the guts withe the HFsignals provided mic capsule and switch.  Yesterday I made contact with the Cape Cod Marconi's Birthday Event station, KM1CC and they gave me a 59 on 40 meters! Then I made contact with three stations in South Bend, IN and in Michigan.
