Thanks to everybody who replied plus the heads up on the diode polarity being wrong in the schematic.

my uBITX shipped to Eastern Pennsylvania with no actual issues, the DHL delivery person did gripe that my apartment number was not indicated on the box. however he has delivered for me before so he was able to figure it out.

A search for "si5351 main board" in this forum will show it's been suggested a half dozen times,

starting with post 20455. I'm still hoping it will happen someday. Can ship with a Nano and perhaps a 2x16 i2c LCD so the rig is easy to get going, but also easy to move on to bigger and better processors and displays. Most of us can find plenty of uses for a spare Nano and LCD. Of course, the current Raduino is nice in that it eliminates a wiring harness from Raduino to uBitx. And I understand the wisdom of avoiding unnecessary changes once something works. But I'd prefer the si5351 on the main board. And maybe pads for an optional ad8307, for use as an RF probe, s-meter, and sweeperino. The $0.20 ad8307's on ebay apparently work just fine. Search for "20pcs ad8307" Jerry, KE7ER

I personally prefer a max of ~10W also (battery power, etc) and the RD transistors are definitely intended for "RF" use and work great on 10m/15m (vs the 510s which essentially quit around 18MHz). I was wondering if anyone has tried the RD06HHF1 RF transistors ?

My first unit arrived in Eastern NC [first week of Feb] on the 4th day after I received the DHL shipping notification. No customs fees or other issues.

That is apparently NOT the case with DHL for US purchasers. My 3 cleared customs and were delivered by DHL couriers with absolutely NO extra charges. W0EB

Re: uBITX BAT54SL: diode ring mixer direction question
If you really want to know, test the part with an multi-meter on the "diode" setting. That will resolve the polarity for sure.

Re: Arduino For Idiots?
I have been programming Arduinos and other small microcontrollers for some years. I don't see the benefit of using a web-based IDE/Editor/uploader. The browser just adds another layer of potential instability.
Web-based tools make sense for functions that are otherwise expensive or difficult to install. For example, ilovepdf.com is a nice set of utilities and hard to duplicate in an installed app. I use the standard Arduino IDE (free and reasonalble to install) and have had only minor problems over the years. One common goof is using a USB cable that is not designed for data.

Also, I believe, in the US first in commerce and not first to register establishes trademark. Yes, one can have two of the same names if they exist in two separate industries, especially if the individuals are not in the others’ industry. Of course, what do I know.

Well things picked up nicely this evening, had confirmed qso's with KN4AIE Rick in TN, N6ORS Keith in WI, N8DLP Kevin in OH, AC9PD Larry in WI, W1LY Willy in RI, WA2FZW John in MA and WI1B Ken in Ma. Congratulations to a couple of 1st time uBITXer's. Some great sounding, some at the noise level and some light audio. Conditions were a heck of a lot better today than in the past months. Keep working them BITX's. So far the BITX40 is proving to be a solid monoband rig.

US Purchasers of the µBITX

I have had mixed results purchasing some items from the UK & it appears from their website (hfsignals.com) there have been some issues with units shipped via DHL to the EU. I am looking for feedback from this company as how things went for you. The company website also seems to indicate there are additional customs charges if DHL is used. Sorry but the budget is not what it once was. -- — Steven Read - ab9ol - Dublin, Indiana (em79jt)

John, You are right about the, Si5531. The way it panned out was that first there was the. Bitx40 with analog vfo. That was unstable for the digital modes, so we made the raduino. Then, because there was a raduino, the ubitx happened. Designing radios teaches you how to design them. Neither of the two radios was supposed to be all that they are doing now. This is purely the effort of you guys. Very often while searching for something on the net, the most relevant information is from people who have done something extraordinary with these radios.
