Re: rv2- messed up setting and txing like mad!!!

Alan -MMØWXT

I had it all up and running on receive working great for a week. I then got ahead of myself, over tiredd, and plunged a screwdriver in and messed with RV2&3. Still ok on receive.

Today I twiddled with Rv1, following something I had read earlier. Probably wrongly...grrrrrr... :-(

I then plug in a a cw key, for it to start this fault with the raduino flashing like a bordelo sign. I then notice the 4.7k snapped away from audio connector pin.

I have:
1. Stripped it all out of case
2. replaced 4.7k with new

rv2&1 are fully clockwise

raduino still flashing on and off when plugged into ubitx

Not flashing and all good when plugged into usb and pc

No idea what I have done!

What is the safest position to turn rv1,2,3 to ? My instinct is raduino regulator blown due to resistor malfunction? I am a complete newbie at this. please be patient...

Many thanks

Alan

See reply from Tin Young above.  I don't have any in mine and so far no problem  I think Tim's copper clad idea is great.

Hello Again,  I very new to the UBITX.

Why is a replacement Raduino need?

What would enhancements would this provide?

Thanks.  73.

P.S. almost have my UBITX built.  Looking forward to using it.  If I dont let the magic smoke out. LOL

Re: Variable power control

Walter

I am very new to UBITX.  Just putting mine together.

I want to use this for digital modes as well and need to lower the output power to 5w for use with my amp.

Has anyone actually put any of these suggestions to work?

Do I need to adjust the power to the whole transceiver or just the PA Power?  I notice that the power connector has a PA supply on it.  Can I regulate the PA power and control the power output of the rig?

I am thinking about a three position switch on the front panel with targets of 3w/5w/full power.

Is there a good solution for this problem.  BTW I am not an EE guy either.  I am a ham radio hobbyist so please make the answer simple.  LOL

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the overwhelming interest.
I think at this stage I will offer the TH PCB only. I will build 1 or 2 complete boards to test, before making the PCB available...
If anyone would like to have another look over the board to check for errors that would be appreciated.

Hi Alan,
I am not sure if you have read through all of the wire up instructions, but there is a 4.7k resistor that must be installed before power is applied or the radio will start transmitting immediately.
Why we're you adjusting those resistors while checking voltage on the IRF510s?  The correct way to adjust them is described in the wire up instructions.  You need to be measuring current to the MOSFETS and not the voltage.

Please completely read the entire wire up instructions before rushing through.  I know it is new and exciting but you will frustrate yourself if you dont.

Ps.
Look at the photos, they will help.  Here is the link:

Hope this helps.

Re: rv2- messed up setting and txing like mad!!!

Alan,

The circuit may oscillate if you put multimeter probe on certain pins.

No need to measure gate voltage. Only the final current.

I recommend to my friends DO NOT adjust bias, check final current it if not Txing.

Set bias ONLY IF you replace the finals. The board comes set from HFSignals.

I am about 2 days away from placing the order with the manufacturer for these boards.
I would like to know what people are most interested in:
1: bare through hole PCB
2: bare SMD PCB
3: PCB + all TH parts(kit) self assembly.
4: Complete ready to run assembles tested and FW loaded.

Thanks.

HI Art,
No firm prices yet, But I dont plan on making anything out of this, just cover the costs and help out fellow BITX lovers...
Bare PCB I am aiming for $2 +$3 postage international, AUS will only be $1 shipping, all just preliminary costs...
Kit, I'm thinking $25 + postage, will be more as I cant use a flat envelope.... Might take awhile as I will have to source all the parts, Honestly you are better of just getting them locally/ebay...
Fully assembled, will have to look at the time, but maybe $30+ post... Same as above with times...

I am thinking I might order 10 of SMD and maybe 20+ TH, I want to build SMD, and the rest are forsale. and 10 HPF...

Re: Raduino Replacemnt, COMING SOON!

Jerry,

With the whole planet working on finding bugs, we are ‘Future Shocked’ with changes faster than anyone can get boards printed…

But, even agreeing with that….on ‘my’ order it didn’t matter if I ordered 10 or 20 boards….same price…I’ll take twenty….next time I might plug in 30 or 40….can always back out and sign back in….

I just thought I would pass on what I found, and how I react to something like that….

I can sit down with a lot of Hams to build AA’s….twenty of them to be exact, for they sent me 21 boards….so I have 10 kitted out right now, and I still have 10 boards for whatever….

And as far as waiting for rev01 or rev02….sometimes that happens, and sometimes it doesn’t….and that special fork might only come from board 21 in the hands of that person…

Had I not been passed someone's ‘spare' little green board on January 6, I surely wouldn’t have loaded up any Gerbers and plugged in 20….Karma….

I started with a Big Red Board, got passed a little green board, ordered me up some Big Green Boards….I surely don’t think it will end there….it might….I don’t care….I paid to play with Big Red Board….I am paying to play again with Big Green Board….you have to get on the Bus to Ride….sometime…rarely is it the same time as everyone else...

And wires on a little PCB? scary? My first electronics job was supersonic and carried nukes….and we added wires all the time….

My suggestion would be to wait till rev01 before going just too crazy.
Very seldom is a rev00 PCB without it's bugs.
Come to think of it, seldom does rev01 not have a wire or two.
