BITX QSO Night, Sunday, July 23, 7pm Local Time, 7277 kHz in North America, 7177 kHz elsewhere

Join us as we make contacts from BITX40 to BITX40 on 7.277 MHz in 40 meters!

To participate, call CQ BITX at 7pm sharp, your local time, on Sunday. Call off and on for about 15 minutes. It is helpful if you call CQ BITX with your name and location.  Repeat your call a number of times if conditions are weak.

This is a worldwide event at 7pm in each time zone.  You may participate in any time zone, regardless of your location, so you may wish to call in at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm, your local time, to contact hams in adjacent time zones.

The backup frequency in case of QSB or other noise is 7210 kHz.

Report your QSO's, discuss propagation, noise, signal reports, audio reports, antenna type, etc. in this thread.

This is an undirected, scheduled event.  The BITX QSO Night relies on you to call CQ BITX to initiate contacts with other stations, so warm up that final and transmit a few calls at 7pm on Sunday.  Talk to you then!

Skip the wonder. Is a pole with wire. Nothing exiting about the combination. Try a tuned dipole on the working freq.

I'm planning to use it with an end-fed wire antenna
and a 9:1 Un-Un with the BITX40 when portable.
I did just that yesterday and made contact with a
station in San Diego. Here's a pic of the 9:1 Un-Un.
I'm going out to trim the end fed wire to the proper
length now.

I hear someone in there calling CQ saying they are running 5 watts. Call sign sounds like a W0 call. It's 8pm est where I'm am located. Sounds like the guy has a non English accent. May have CSH in his call

Can't be me. A) I'm not running 5 watts and never did say what I was running - but that would be about 18 watts. B) I haven't called CQ since about 7:30. C) I have no non-English accent. Would be nice to be heard tho, so I could know the antenna's working. Put the un-un balun on it a little while ago. I think I heard better without it.

Ok, I hear a guy in there with an accent that said he was "running 5 watts just 5 watts". It sounded like he said CSH in his call. Maybe he was trying to get back to you.

Tom,

Heard your question about antenna and 160 and then I lost you. The wire is 146ft it's a odd configuration because it makes two turns and then it goes up to my roof. I had a hard time tuning up 160 until I added a common mode choke after the 9:1 and I have RG-213 going to the radio and tuner.

Is the 40 mtr dead tonight?

Larry Smith

Came up from the shack.  I either have problem with my antenna or is the band dead for tonight?\I brought up WEBSDR nothing much to show for.
Forecast for most bands tonight is poor.
Wonder if solar ejections is still a problem
Wish I knew more about this!
