Good point. I guess that depends on how much you are willing to trade off in transmit power wasted in the series resistor to the diodes. However, the other T/R switches, in the various linked articles, are not that much more complicated that trying to make a broadband shunt diode T/R switch (or anti receiver fryer circuit) worth the effort, other than a fun experiment.  

Although a marketing department could tout the transceiver's amazing ability to transmit without any antenna attached and not fry the finals, and in case of an EMP strike the receiver would (with many legal disclaimers in the brochure) survive.
