I stayed up till 4am watching that last night. I recently saw a transistor documentary that focused on the three guys from bell labs. Well after it went through the history of crystal. I think I’m gonna watch it again with my new brain.

Here is a really fascinating (at least to me) old documentary on the rise of Japanese transistor industry. The interesting thing is how the various types of transistors that were important (Point contact, Mesa) in the vintage ARRL Handbook chapter were really just stepping stones and have faded away to more reliable and mass producible modern transistor types.

Also, provides an insight to the past and an engineering culture that existed in a not too far past world. Not just in Japan but much of the world.
