"welcome to this list" ideas

Dave and others;

Welcome yourself, and thanks for the hints. Of course the most
important hints will be the hardest to give -- how people with no
experience with such lists and no Yahoo enrollment navigate the process
and actually sign up. I hope that anyone who has problems will contact
Bryon off list and then he will forward them to me as I can add people
directly if they give me permission.

There is a short article on "Netiquette" and my plan is to post it
periodically for new members or if things get out of hand. Also have a
digest of emoticons and abbreviations. Of course we all know that when
someone pens IMHO the opinion is apt to be anything BUT humble. [imho=
in my humble opinion]. I have started a "New Member's File" and will
upload keep such items in there for anyone to access. first, I have to
find them ;~(

Yahoo also provides a PHOTOS file with 30MB of free storage for list
members to use, so people should feel free to visit and upload pix.
When uploading it is a good idea to first create a new file for your
pix. When you name the file only the first 8 or so characters will show
up on the screen so try to keep as much meaning in the front part of
the file name so that when there are lots and lots of files it is easier
to figure out which one has your stuff.

The signature file suggestion is nice, but when people have very very
long sig's it can get very tiresome to see them day after day and month
after month. Of course computers do come with scroll keys, so it isn't
the end of the world if someone lists all 76 cars, bikes, scooters,
jet-skis, and all family pets over the last 46 years as their signature.

Hi all,

as I join up on yet another automotive YahooGroup, I think there
should some posting tips given to new members.

it is much easier to post to the list using your regular e-mail
program, not the website posting page.
just add Arcane_autos@... to your address book.

be sure to "trim" and "snip" Quotes when you reply to avoid build-up
of sig files, old messages and Yahoo Ads.

If you do use the Post page, use your "return" key to avoid really
long sentence lines that will run off the edge of the page. (or
remember to check the "wrap message text" option)

Don't forget to edit your membership profile preferences to avoid
extra Spam (the Yahoo default is "More Spam, Please!)

New Topic = New Subject Line!

It is nice to maybe include a short sig file maybe with some or all
of your Arcane Cars so we will all have an idea of your particular
specialities or interests.

This should be fun - the more links to Arcane Cars all over the world
the better :-)
