cannot load car onto my trailer, almost wrecked the car trying

Stephen Cooper

does anyone in Santa Cruz county have a proper car trailer with a full width ramp capable of loading my Reliant 3 wheeler to take this weekend to the Concour d'elegance in Ferndale?
Otherwise I have to drive it there and back 360 miles each way!
I'm 75 next month and the drive is not appealing to me.  I have my Chrysler Town and Country all fitted our for pulling a trailer with a GVW of 3500lb.  My car only weighs 960 lbs.

Hi Stephen,
Could you get a tow dolly for a motorcycle
and hook it to the Reliant's front wheel?  That
would save the Chrysler road cruiser the weight
of the trailer.  Lower center of gravity.
Plan "B":  Remove the Chrysler's deck lid
and back seat so the Reliant would fit in.  That
would save bridge toll for more than 2 axles.
[Please take plan "B" with a bit of levity.]
Want to borrow my cat trailer trailer to
realize how small your Chrysler is?  Tail wags
the Dog.

Hi Stephen,
I've seen two styles of bike totes in action and pictured them below.

The above attaches the front wheel to the tow vehicle.

The trailer below holds the front wheel upright.

If the Reliant can be towed at freeway speed
with out damage, you might think about making
a tow bar that attaches to your front wheel so
the Reliant will follow in line.  The longer the tow
bar the straighter the tow.  Make it just short
enough to stow in the Chrysler trunk.

A tilt bed trailer is another option but be sure
you have plenty of tongue weight.

In all cases be sure you cross link two safety chains.

    Have fun at Ferndale!            Lou

I’d try some of the rental yards close to you.  I used to be able to rent a small flatbed trailer from a place in Redwood City.  Try the independents rather than UHaul.  If it’s only got a pair of ramps, you could just buy a premade wooden ramp for the central wheel from Home Depot.
