If that's the case, what IS period correct? I;ve never heard of a paper wheel, or anything other than a period Halda rally chronometer? And they're not going to be cheap unless digital doohickeys have outmoded and are cheaper than the mechanical ones. Only other period correct pc might be a trailing odometer wheel like they used to use back in the day as more accurate than an original odo - Ken

Re: CA VIN verifier recommendation needed
Larry 831-359-8711 or lcohen831@... he came by my house before I moved out of CA and did 6 vehicles for me. I don't recall what he charged. Only one was rejected and I just took it to a different DMV to register. Alternately you could call around to some private dealers and ask if they can do it for you. CHP, I just dropped in and they did my dad's Morgan - I had to twist his arm, told him I was leaving back to Oregon the next day - so they did it and installed a new Blue Tag for me but with same VIN. If you print out the form and take to your local PD they can do it for you (Scotts Valley told me they would).

Looking for a Mileage recorder
I'm looking for a thingamabob that attaches to the sun visor for recording mileage. A mechanical counter or paper wheel thing? My wife's 61 VW doesn't have a fuel gauge (it was an option tho) so you have to use the floorboard reserve switch when running low on gas. Not wanting a logbook or one of those circular slide rules for mileage. I don't know what to call it to search ebay properly. Thanks, Bruce Grass Valley, CA

If you’re a AAA member, you can get 3 separate move permits which allow you to drive your car on any day you wish. Just fill in the date you’ll be driving it the day you get in your car. Larry

Try the one day pass - I think it's $20. but must be used on a particular date, but I think you can fill in the date yourself, which makes it a bit easier to coordinate scheduling a DMV visit with a pass. Ken
I've seen mixed reports afa whether DMV will accept mobile vin-verifiers anymore. I'm sure others will loudly correct me if not. I had zero issues having CHP do the verification on my trike and my old MINI; went to San Jose (took it on a trailer - u-haul rents them easy enough). DMV will then have nothing to complain about.

If the vehicle is driveable, you can always ask DMV for a "parade pass" - they used to give out 1-day move-it tags that allow you to operate on public roads for a day (I say used to because I haven't tried this for over 15 yrs). It's valid for a day, and perhaps you have to make your CHP appt first to get the date, then get the DMV parade-pass for that date. Or just go U-Haul, or maybe even AAA could be an option to tow it there...do your thing...then tow it back.

CA VIN verifier recommendation needed
sujit roy
This is a follow up email to my registering a car in CA.
I have been give a 30 day use permit of which I have 10 days left. The guy at the DMV office said I need to take it down to the local DMV for VIN verification. I'm having problems with car and dont think I can drive it 10 miles from Cupertino to Los Gatos within the next 10 days. I'm aware' CHP can do the verification, but it seem I need to make an apt and take it to a local place. A google search seems find thousands of versifiers. Can someone please recommend one to me who can make a house call? Also what is the typical cost of this service? Thanks in advance. Sujit '71 Triumph Stag

I love the complete listing of what this corpse used to have before baking behind the barn for four decades. Project of a lifetime.

So, how much are you willing to pay for an original like-new hubcap - you just have to take the rest of teh car with you - even more so if you are in need of a chicken coop as well.
