An Invitation - Outdoor, but covered layout anyone?
nycrr8
Geoff, Our real carport, being relatively new, is not rickety like that one in the picture. So I am not too worried about this afternoon. As long as it's not a tornado... Let's hope this happens.

This sounds like a great idea; however, I am flat out busy with remodeling our kitchen and Linda and I are hosting a wedding Labor Day weekend. The following week we will be going to Cape Cod for vacation. So, I will not be able to attend an event like this this summer. You guys have a great time, Mike L.

Thanks, John Henry. You mentioned this to me once before and I'm glad you posted the invitation. I hope your carport doesn't blow down in the thunderstorms forecast for this afternoon - it looks a bit rickety.
I can make most Saturdays or weekdays until the snow flies and would enjoy spending a day running trains. Geoff |

I live in Yorktown Heights near the JV Mall. I can also bring my portable Digitrax Command Station.

I would be interested in bringing a couple of T-Trak Modules, but I don't have any tables. I could bring my yard (8 Feet) + some straight and corner Modules. Not a long trip for me as I live in Yorktown.

Hi all, If there is enough interest, we could host a layout (or two or three) under our pole barn-style "carport." We have a 32 x 36 feet structure with a roof (that overhangs an additional 2 feet) and no walls, that is usually used to shelter vehicles. It has electric service and an Item # 4 gravel floor. A little “rustic,” but we have scrap 2x12 squares for under the legs to level things and have some rubber mats for under your feet. And unlike basements, plenty of “fresh air.” But would not be great in a high wind. (Imagine those N scale cars without enough extra weights being knocked over…) Not in today’s forecast 100 degree “feels like temperatures,” either. OK in the rain of it is not windy. I have no preference about NTrak or TTrak, and there is no reason we couldn’t set up both with this amount of space. Maybe even connect the 2 somehow? There was an article about a turn and a half helix module for that in an NRail newsletter a couple of years ago. Could even bring FreeMo and set up next to an N Scale layout. If we went ahead with this, I would ask someone else to be the layout coordinator, so I could focus on host logistics. I don’t want to post our address in a public forum (will give it to you privately if you email or call), but we are not far from the NY, MA and CT border. Geoff lives about one hour from us if you come down the Taconic State Parkway. Add five minutes if you come down Route 9 from Geoff’s or from Doug’s down the Taconic. Since we are pretty far away from many of you, especially from the “Northern Tier” and “Adirondack Division” members, we could invite anyone interested in “camping” overnight here, either with an RV, camper or tent. There is plenty of room and a couple of RVs could plug in. And we would be open to a 2-day gathering, if the weather cooperates The attached photo is not our “carport,” but is in a similar style. Don’t worry, though, no hay will be falling on your modules. Let me know what you think. I have no particular dates in mind. Be well, “John Henry” |

Sounds like a great idea for me depending on the timing.

I don’t know our plans for the rest of the summer but if you’re an hour south of Albany that could be perfect.

Haven’t run trains in forever but an outdoor layout would be nice. I’ve got way more TTrak running. Don’t even know if my NTrak stuff still works. I’ll try to email you off list. Matthew (from a million years ago) :) On Jul 24, 2022, at 6:44 PM, nycrr8 via groups.io <nycrr8@...> wrote: |

That sounds like a really fun idea for a late summer get together.

I would definitely be interested in this for an N-trak style if you needed modules, and I could bring stuff to run for T-trak. Either way it sounds great. Matt Rossman On Jul 24, 2022, at 12:44 PM, nycrr8 via groups.io <nycrr8@...> wrote: |
