T-Trak arch bridge modules
nycrr8
Geoff, It's not a duh moment. The palpable stress levels around this pandemic does that to most people.
While I like the Ngineers thought, I think that both N-Trak and T-Trak have a national brand name recognition that we could never achieve on our own, so to me it makes more sense to me to piggy back off that national brand name recognition. If N-Trak or T-Trak people should be transferred by an employer to the Albany area or just move here, we would show up more in searches, etc. I also don't think that one excludes the other. In the evolution of the standard first came N-Trak, then much later T-Trak. So I don't think you have to throw out one for the other. Rather than reinvent the wheel, maybe we should look at how other clubs and National integrate or deal with the two standards. My usual go to is NVN-Trak (North Virginia N-Trak). They are very active in T-Trak, but when I look at their website have not re-branded or changed the club name, at least not yet. But I don't have any insight beyond that. Regards, "John Henry" |

If we are looking to try to recruit more members, particularly younger members, this could be a good avenue. Just my 2cents, I understand some of members are reluctant to go this way for various reasons and i respect that. If the group can come up with a name and a logo design, I can 3D print a logo in either a negative or positive for the bridge. I would need dimensions and a logo in a jpeg format and someone to paint it if it a positive or it can be left white as a negative and a light box put behind it. more decisions i know. I've done 2 for UMRR

While I am comfortable with the current group name, Mike does make a good
point as I believe I heard that the only NTrak show we do is the Poughkeepsie show and we seem to be moving more to a T-TRAK based group. So while there’s a historical tradition to the Albany N-Trak name I see little harm in making the change to reflect the evolution of the group’s activities. As for acquiring a bridge, I vote YES. I have noticed at shows that the various scenes attract a lot of attention from the public and the bridge would only draw more attention. We are in serious need of younger members (the current health issues have underscored that the group average age is hardly young). I believe that use of T-TRAK modules (and comparative ease to construct, transport and store them) will help attract new members. Be well and stay safe my friends. What percentage of shows are Ntrak versus T TRAK? I think that would determine a name change or not.

Thank you, John Henry. That's a "duh" moment for me.
As far as a name change - I'm comfortable with Albany N-Trak, even though we've branched out to TTrak (yes, the national group specifies a dash in one but not the other). But Mike's suggestions are good too. More input from the rest of you? Geoff |

Technically we do have a logo, but obviously you can always change it. A long time ago, there was a vote to use the NYC Cigar Band style logo with our club name and website url on it. The one attached with the brighter red background does appear on our website and was used on a display banner that used to hang at train shows. Doug also used it without the website address for our our first batch of long-sleeved maroon shirts. The logo attachment on the darker maroon background is from Landsend and appears on the later batches of long-sleeved and short sleeved (polo) shirts, as well as operators aprons, caps, boat totes (well really train gear totes), etc.
Hope everyone is well, "John Henry" Low |

One of the discussions we have had is about our club name, Albany-N-Trak. Should we consider altering our name to perhaps; Albany-N Scale, or Albany-T-Trak, Albany Modular N Scale, or something else which better identifies us now? Mike L.

We can have the club logo cut into either bridge, for $30. We don't have a club logo that we use, although I think Mike L. drew one up 25 years ago. If someone wants to design a club T-Trak logo, we can go that route. I like a advertising ourselves... Rod, I hope we can safely get together soon, but only when the medical professionals agree! Personally, I like the second one because the arches are larger, but it's more expensive. Thoughts from the membership? Geoff |
