GTE show - was RE: glens falls show

The club has been at the GTE since 1992.  As president, I would rather see a small layout be setup than no layout at all.  There are at least two other layouts that have dropped out for this year, so it will be good for the show to have our layout.

I will be with the Free-mo layout but I can commit to an hour at the T-Trak layout if you need me.

In light of the poor response to my call for modules (& operators) for GTE, do you think we should opt out of this year’s show?

In regard to the PCC show, I can bring 6 singles, 2 doubles, my inside drive-in movie corner & 1 outside corner.  I also have a non-standard  (33”) junction module that I can bring if we can accommodate the additional 9” in length?  It would go between my “downtown” modules and Brian’s modules.

If someone can pick them up and return them, I can provide a 7X yard, an inside corner, and/or two junction modules.  I will not be able to deliver them to the GTE.

I would caution that, at a public show, too much layout and too few people to run it is not a good situation.

Also, someone should take the club DCC system after the PCC show and bring that to the GTE.

As I indicated in my call for modules for GTE earlier this week, we are really hurting for modules for this year’s show.  So far, only Brian, Mike Richards and myself have committed to bringing modules.  At this point, we only have commitments for about 20 modules as compared to the 39 that we displayed at the 2018 GTE.  I know that you indicated earlier this week in your message (below) that it was too early for you to commit to bringing modules to GTE.  However, per my earlier call for modules, James Lauser, GTE coordinator, needs to know ASAP how many tables we need to accommodate the number of T-Trak modules that we will be bringing to this year’s show.  Last year, per the attached diagram, you brought six (6) modules to the show including 2 singles, 2 doubles and 2 junction modules.  I believe you also have other modules available that we couldn’t accommodate last year but that we may be able to use this year.  In this regard, we’re really in need of a yard, and inside and outside corners.  Thanks.

P.S. I also haven’t heard back from Forest, who brought an inside corner & 2 doubles last year; Geoff, 1 inside corner; and Neil 2 doubles.  If I could get a yea or nay response from each of you, it would be appreciated.  I’ve already heard back from Mike Romanowski that he will not be bringing modules to this year’s show (Mike brought 12-ft. worth of modules

Doug,  Thanks for the offer to help out at GTE.  However,  as it stands now, we just have 3 operators (i.e. Brian, Mike Richards and me) and, as Geoff cautions, at a public show, too much layout and too few people to run it is not a good situation.  I just heard from Forest Bevins that he won’t be coming and I still need to hear from Neil and Mike Lagasse.  Also, if there are any other members out there who can’t bring modules but would be available to help set up and break things down and would also be available to help with operations, please let me know ASAP.  Thanks.

Mike,

Thanks.

Rod

P.S. I also haven’t heard back from Forest, who brought an inside corner & 2 doubles last year; Geoff, 1 inside corner; and Neil 2 doubles.  If I could get a yea or nay response from each of you, it would be appreciated.  I’ve already heard back from Mike Romanowski that he will not be bringing modules to this year’s show (Mike brought 12-ft.. worth of modules

Geoff ,I plan to bring modules to the Glens falls show. I will bring my double junction module and enough modules to fill an 8’ table. As far as the group on line move, I only am interested in an e-mail function for staying in communication, I don’t do much else online. I cannot see far enough out yet for any commitment for GTE. Re: Vote on transfer to Groups.io

Geoff Dunn

The final vote tally for paying to move to Groups.io was:
In favor - 5 votes
Against - 3 votes and another I interpreted as probably no
Meh - one explicit and the six who didn't vote...

So paying for the move was approved.  I will start the process and it will be done in a few weeks.

We should use the Yahoo group for communicating until this show season is over.  In the meantime, we have a "free" groups.io group, with none of the history, pictures, or files. A few of you made yourselves members before I realized I had not properly configured the group.  The rest of you have to request membership or be invited.  I'll work on the invitations for club members over the next few days.

Geoff

Groups.io has raised their prices.  They claim it's to meet the extensive demand from groups migrating from Yahoo.  I think they may have also seen a huge profit potential...

Anyhow, it will now cost us $220 a year to move.  We have the money, we have about that in annual income from shows, and I think we should do it.

For existing members who paid dues last year - please let me know if you think we should make the transfer to Groups.io at a cost of $220 per year, or if we should do something else.  Reply to the group or to me privately.

Thanks.  Geoff

Mark and I set up modules at the annual Poughkeepsie show today.  The HVRS also brought their module set, and John Henry helped with setup.

The show was a bit challenging for various reasons.  I was late, we never got the Digitrax system running (but Mark had his NCE setup and a JMRI / wifi router for a phone throttle), and we had some perplexing track problems.  But we ran trains, talked to a lot of people, and enjoyed ourselves despite the issues.  The club received a modest honorarium for setting up.

Some pictures are in the groups.io page, at https://groups.io/g/AlbanyNTrak/album?id=176698 ..  I'm currently the only member so I'll be interested to know if others can see them.

Hey Rod. No worries about the delay.

The sooner you can give me an exact dimension the better, but if you could give me a rough guess now, that would be helpful. The G-scale guys can't make it this year, so honestly I can probably give you as much space as your can find modules to fill. If you're going to be bringing your T-Track modules and need us to supply tables, I will need a count of those as soon as possible as well.

The only thing that I would ask that you do immediately is fill out the parking forms and get them either back to me or directly to OGS.. You can download the form here: https://gtealbany.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Exhibitor-Entry-Form.pdf

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to having you in a few weeks.

Hi James,

I’ve been appointed to be Albany N-Trak’s coordinator again for this year’s GTE.  I’ve just been advised by Geoff Dunn, our club President, that we have missed the November 1st deadline for advising you of how much floor space that we need for this year’s show.  In this regard, I did put out a call for modules to our members a couple of weeks ago and have not received any responses to date.  I believe there are several reasons for this lack of any responses.  First of all, the club is very busy in November with our participation in shows for the next three weekends (i.e. Poughkeepsie on 11/10, UMR show on 11/16 and the PCC show on 11/23).  The effect of the UMR show on 11/16 has been particularly impactful as more than half of the modules displayed at last year’s GTE were provided by UMR members.  Also, this is the first year that UMR will be having their show in November rather than December as in past years when their show was one week after GTE.  Another reason for the lack of response from our members is probably a function of the timing of this year’s show falling on Thanksgiving weekend with many of our members travelling out of town.

Before I send out a second call for modules, do you have a “drop dead” date when you will have to have a response or has that date already passed?  If so, I guess we will be shut out of this year’s show.  Thanks.
