Melons at Coconuts
Felt like a hall of fame matchup series, cause it was !!!!
game 1- STEVE CARLTON vs Larry Gura Left pitched like a hall of famer only allowing a run on three hits. Gura only allowed four hits but no runs. 1-0 Cucamonga. WP Gura 4-2 LP Carlton 3-3 Only run came on a SF from Gorman Thomas with Dilone on 3rd base.
Game 2- Joe Niekro vs GAYLORD PERRY Both pitchers gave up a bit too much early. Niekro tagged for 5 in 3 innings. Perry gave up 3 in a bit over 5 to pick up the win. 6-4 final, Coconuts win. WP Perry 3-2 LP JNiekro 4-2 SV SStewart (3) HR Cromartie Visitors out hit home team 10 hits to 7.
Game 3-TOM TERRIFIC vs JIM PALMER This was all about Tom. Whitewash time. 7-0. No homers. Melons punched out 13 hits. WP Seaver 4-2 LP Palmer 1-4 Oliver went 3 for 4 , raising his average to 376.
Game 4- Brad Havens vs NOLAN RYAN Nolan was just stellar. 1-0 game. Havens pitched good too. Lance Parrish doubled home Steve Henderson in the 7th for the lone run. WP Ryan 4-1 LP Havens 1-1
Game 5- Moose Haas vs Glenn Abbott Coconuts score three in the 1st, answered in the 2nd by 3 melon runs. Coconuts chase Haas in the 3rd with two more. 6-4 final score. WP Abbott 1-3 LP Haas SV Andersen (1) HRS: Carter (4), GTHomas (5) SHenderson (2)
Moral of the story is Coconuts are a lot harder to crack than Melons.
Cheers, Robert
