It's in the league groups files section. Which I need to clean up because it has too much old stuff and it's hard to find. Go to the very end (page #3) for the most up-to-date/latest stuff.

Or here: https://groups.io/g/ASSL/files/League%20Archives/C-ASSL%20Semis%20Results.LPF

You guys can exchange f-files - send a copy to me - and play at your own pace. If you want to go live or however you wish to arrange it is fine.

Good luck.

Nice Job.  Thanks for allowing me to get the correct lineup, even if it didn't result in a win.  Good Luck in the finals.

Nine take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st with back-to-back doubles to start the game by Brett and Bell

Lokies answer with 2 in the 5th and a single in the 6th to lead 3-1

This is where I expected the Nine’s offense to just quit, but I’m a glass is half empty kinda guy. :)

The Nine plate 3 big runs, highlighted by a 2-run Leon Durham 3B.

Into the 7th, the Lokies get Remy on base and I figured why have a great bullpen and not use it. So Fingers comes in and closes out the 7th without any damage.

He also pitches a perfect 8th with the Nine clinging to their 4-3 lead.

The wheels fall off for the Lokies and Reuss in the bottom of the 8th as the Nine put up a huge 4-run inning and take a commanding 8-3 lead.

That’s where it stays as Gossage comes in and allows a BB, but no runs.

Final score

Mudville         8-8-0

Seltzer             3-8-0

WP:  S. Carlton (1-1)

LP:  J. Reuss (1-1)

Durham 2 hits, 3B, 2 RS, 3 RBI

Bell 3-3, 3 2B, BB, 2 RS, RBI

Brett 2 hits, 2B, 3B, 2 RS

Seltzer deserved better.  They had a great regular season and had a series leads of 2 games to none and 3 games to 1, but couldn’t close it out.

Melonville - Spokane series

mlassman2001

Melonville and Spokane battled it out all season and tied for the division championship.  Melonville won the tie-breaker and got a first round bye.

Games 1, 2, and 3 were played by the home owners.  Game 4 was played on-line

game 1 - Ken Forsch pitches a solid 7 innings, and gives up 2 runs.  Pete Falcone comes in for the save.  Tim Raines goes 3 for 3 and 2 RBIs.  Terry Kennedy had 3 hits.  Bobby Grich knocks in both runs for Melonville.  McCatty takes the loss.

Spokane 4 Melonville 2

game 2 - Eddie Solomon is a surprise starter for the Chill, as the rotation was still a little tired from the preceding series.  He pitches well.  He gives up 1 run over 7.1 innings.  Falcone picks up save 2.  Lou Whitaker knocks in 2 big runs for Spokane.  Gibson and Grich with 2 hits for Melonville.

Spokane 4 Melonville 1

game 3 - Series returns to Spokane, and the Chill keep the pitching up.  Burt Hooton tosses a 4-hit shutout for the Chill.  Raines with 3 hits and Kennedy with 2 hits.  Lemon drives in Raines for the only run of the game.

Spokane 1 Melonville 0

game 4 - Played online.  Ken Forsch duplicates Hooton's effort and throws a 4-hitter. Trammell hits a 2 run homer.  Melonville threatens with runners on base, but can't convert.   Diaz and Concepcion each with 2 hits.  Pete Rose knocks in 2 runs for Spokane.

Spokane 5 Melonville 0

Tough series for Melonville as their bats were cold after the layoff.  Tim Raines wins MVP for the series as he hits. .600.

Mike

Tom Paciorek gave Seltzer a first inning lead with a sac fly. Mudville came back with single runs in the 2nd and 3rd to go up 2-1.  Seltzer got 2in the bottom of the 3rd and another in the 4th.  But Leon Durham hit a 2 run homer in the 5th to tie. Seltzer had a couple of chances to take the lead but had runners pegged on the bases, including 1 at home in the 8th.  In the top of the 10th, George Brett hit a 3 run two out triple and Gossage closed it out for a 7-4 Mudville win.

Kevin, I will be starting LP Reuss in game 4.  That's not what shows in the box now.

In the last 2 playoffs I’ve been in (not in the ASSL), I didn’t win a single home playoff game.

That trends is continuing nicely here…

Seltzer scores 2 in the 6th and holds off for a 2-1 victory and commanding 2-0 SF lead.

Mudville is as ready as they can be.

Sorry for the delay and sorry for the lack of writeup.

Seltzer takes Game 1 3-2 in 14 innings.

Both teams scored single runs in the 12th to keep the game going much longer than I wanted it to.

Awaiting instructions (if any) for Game 2.

Thanks,

    Kevin

Re: ASSL '81: Semi-Finals - Mudville vs Seltzer gm 4 NO HITTER?

Inconsistent offense has been a problem.

We’re ready with Seaver on the hill.

Jerry Reuss had a no hitter thru 8 innings for Seltzer.  But the manager didn't notice it until he went to Luis Aponte in the 9th.  Aponte finished the no hitter as Seltzer won 2-0.  Reuss' agent won't stop calling me.

In the game, Billy Buckner's rbi grounder in the 3rd scored the only run Seltzer would need.  Tom Paciorek doubled homer Mickey Klutts an insurance run in the 8th.  Steve Carlton took the hard luck loss.

Mudville is good to go.  Lefty on the mound.

Series shifted to Seltzer with the Lokies holding a 2-0 edge.  Looking to put the knife in deeper in game 3
