Very interesting series. Seltzer took 3 of 5. Both teams have good pitching. Cucamonga has the better hitting. Seltzer hit around a good Coconut pen for big runs with some of their lesser hitters.
Jerry Reuss tossed a 3 hitter and Seltzer got 5 of their 6 hits in the 3 run 5th for a 3-0 win. Reuss won his 11th.
Jim Gantner drove in the game winner in the 7th as Cucamonga scored 2 in the inning (other on a WP) to win 4-3. Nolan Ryan went 8 innings of 5 hit ball. Both runs he gave up were unearned. Al Holland walked 4 in the 9th to give up a run. Seltzer got 9 walks in the game but stranded 12.
Seltzer got 4 late runs, 3 rbi's from their 7,8 and 9 hitters to win 5-2. Scott Sanderson got his 12th win. Pat Underwood got his 1st save.
Gaylord Perry took a no hitter into the 7th and settled for a 3 hitter in Cucamonga's 4-1 win. Gorman Thomas homered and drove in 2.
Cucamonga held a 5-0 lead after batting in the 3rd. Seltzer erased that with 5 in the bottom of the 3rd, 4 on a Ron Cey slam. Jim Gantner hit a 2 run homer for the Coconuts in the 7th but their pen imploded in the 9th as Hosken Powell hit a 2 out 2 run single to tie it and Jerry Remy won it 1 batter later on a single for an 8-7 Seltzer win.
