Installation Problem

George Stein - NJ3H

I previously had APRSISCE32 installed on my win 10 computer 64.  After a ransomware attack a few weeks ago, I am starting over with a new C drive and Win 10 again.

I tried to download the subject program, but the CE is not in the file name.  All I get APRSIS32 only.

When I unzip and run the exe file, I get an opening screen asking for my call and passcode.

So I enter that and the passcode from before and continue.

Then all I get on the screen is a thin horizontal box across the screen left to right.  I have to close out using task manager.

Any ideas on how to proceed are most welcome.

You need to create a new folder in a non-protected (e.g. not under Program Files) place and unzip the downloaded program into that folder.   Then double-click the unzipped copy that's in the new folder.

The symptom you are describing happens when you double-click the APRSIS32.EXE file from within a .ZIP file viewer.

Read the installation instructions.

You are getting the thin line because you did not copy the installation file to a separate folder for APRSIS32 and also unzip the file at that location.  Then run the install file from that folder.

Redo the installation following the above and it should work fine.

Each Operation system has this feature that increases the font on your desktop you can even change it to maybe something you can read better

I recommend using the keywords "increase font + (your version of the operation system)"

If it's just a browser issue you can hold CTRL and move your scroll wheel to zoom

Andy,

Hopefully you have the accessibility features turned on that help the visually impaired. I know Windows has a few features to help that way.

Maybe this can help some people remember that you never know what other people are dealing with on their end.

Internet conversations can get extra heated just because people can read a message and assume a different intent than the writer intended.

We all can probably identify with that.

I know Lynn wasn’t trying to demean or belittle you. He’s sent that same reply to a number of people over the years who have used all caps. It’s a pet peeve of his.

The response is short and to the point, which can easily be seen as being annoyed and abrupt. It takes longer to write out:

Please refrain from using ALL CAPS, as that is considered yelling on message forums and other internet messaging mediums.

If however the use of all caps makes it easier for you to read the text, it might be helpful to put a note in your signature to let people know that you have vision issues.

One of the great things about amateur radio is that it is a pretty level playing field. You never know who you are talking to. Race, religion, profession, physical challenges and many other artificial barriers are invisible over the air.

In the digital modes even our hearing impaired cohorts can play without restriction.

I’m sure that everyone here is more than happy to try and ensure that we write responses to you that don’t include items that might make it difficult for a screen reader to interpret, or any other concession that may help.

We are all getting older, it’s inevitable. I’m closing in on 60. That looks so strange to see written down. I still mentally feel like I’m in my 20’s, but I’ve had a few people bound up the staircase and hold the door for me in the last week, and I’ve told them they will be waiting a few seconds as I no longer run up the steps. They take a bit longer these days.

I might have to put a disclaimer at the bottom of my email messages telling people just to agree with me.

I think I can be quite happy sitting on my front step yelling the kids to “Get off my lawn!” all day.

We might not like to admit that time is marching on, and we’re getting older, stiffer, and the old eyes aren’t as good as they used to be, but maybe letting people know might let them know how they can help you out a bit.

After all of that, did you find the files to download?

If not, I can help you find them and get set up.
