While the information carried by the transmission is digital, the emission type is F3E since the carrier is FM modulated single channel analog audio. Take your existing APRS station, and tune it to the output of the repeater. Disable any transmit capability so you aren't adding to the packet racket on the voice frequency. I am assuming you are running APRSISCE/32 since you are in this group. James VE6SRV On Mon, Oct 31, 2022 at 11:35 AM Charles Maletich <c.maletich@...> wrote:

You will need a TNC to ecode the signals. Software TNCs are ot ost commonly used with a spound card interface. UZ7HO sound modem and Dire Wolf are the most common software TNCs. You need an application such as perhaps APRSIS32 to interface to the software TNC. On Mon, Oct 31, 2022 at 1:35 PM Charles Maletich <c.maletich@...> wrote:

Actually, when I'm hearing packet racket somewhere, I just hook
up my Signalink to a radio tuned to the proper frequency and then
fire up a copy of Direwolf and just let it listen and show me
whatever it is decoding. Works a charm on 2m with AFSK/AX.25
packets, be they APRS or connected packet, Direwolf will show them
to you. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE

I think your using a Soundcard. I would run UZ7HO, and Dierwolf to read the data. If the packet sound is coming across, you would see the id of stations. In uz7ho I move it to 1700 as show at the top of waterfall menu. 73 Don Poaps New Westminster, BC VA7DGP DATA VA7QU VOICE Winlink: va7dgp@... To be honest, you do not need an APRS client for some of the software TNCs. I know Direwolf will display decoded packets, and interface directly with APRS-IS (if properly configured). That will send the decoded info to APRS-IS which should show on aprs.fi (not the same thing, but connected). To add to James' comment, an SDR (RTL dongle) is a good way to ensure you do not transmit over the air. I am pretty sure SDR sharp has an AFSK decoder plug-in. Keep in mind that is the user is sending the packet in Mic-E format (most common) or compressed format, there will be an additional decode required. There are websites to paste the packet into and it will decode the, - but if sent to aprs-is, that will be handled there. Robert Giuliano

AX.25 was mentioned aka packet. FLDigi is not compatible with that mode.
UH7ZO's Soundmodem works FB with my IC-9100's internal soundcard. Also, be aware that the HF modem vs VHF modem require different speeds. HF is 300bd and VHF is typically 1200bd. Also what you're hearing on that local repeater may not be packet. Someone could be having an 'oopps' moment on it with some other data mode. Happens here from time to time. Glenn-K0ION |

I am using a Yaesu VX6, soundmodem, and a Digirig with their VX6 cable.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I’m trying all of them. The , Direwolf isn’t loading for me getting errors. But thanks. I’ve thought of other modes and fldigi does a lot of them with no luck. I’ll keep plugging away. Thanks again for all the support, you’re a great bunch of Elmers.

Sorry bout that. I rebooted the laptop and restarted signallink and sound modem and seems to be working now . I’ll have to wait for the mystery transmission to return. I’m still trying the other suggestions.
