objects not displaying on map

Done. The new one is a bit happier, though it too stopped displaying a while ago. I shut down and re-started, displaying again.

The new program seems to have that solved.

I shut APRSIS32 down and when I opened hyper term, there were readable packets without trash. I ecpect APRSIS32 returns the TNC to CMD mode on exit though. I just tried to look at Hyperterm while APRSIS32 was running and was told that the port was busy, so as I expected, I can't look at it while running.

I don't find an "RF port" log option. Perhaps "activity"?

Yah... I'm building a utility trailer I've been a fabricator for 40 years. It's pretty much brainless and therapeutic and I DID use the BFH (That's a Big Ferrous Hammer, They're made of iron)

Now, it's off to bed for me. My one brain cell just frosted over, I'll run it tomorrow and send the logs.

Thanks for holding my hand through this.

Ok, before we go any further, please get the latest version of APRSISCE.  I see by the raw packets at http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&call=KC8SFQ&limit=50&view=normal that you are running a very old version.  The current version does >APWW08, not >APWW06.

When that is enabled, immediately upon start up I am presented with a STACK of log pages over the top of the map.

That may be a side effect of the old version.  File Enabled changed what it does sometime fairly recently.  It used to force every single trace log to enable and display itself.  It now only directs otherwise-enabled trace log output to the APRSIS32.LOG file.  Enables / Logging / All At Startup (which you probably don't have) now forces every trace log to enable itself upon creation.

Now I'm finding that my TNC is receiving and decoding. I ran Hyperterm and there's data there, but nothing on APRSIS-32. (UI view doesn't see them either). It doesn't even see my wife's tracker in the driveway. that does show up on APRS.FI, so I know it's getting out.

Are you seeing readable packets on Hyperterm?  Or some non-printables followed by the readable payload?  If the former, then your TNC isn't in KISS mode and that would explain a lot of things.  If the latter, then something else is up.

VIEW/ ALL seems to have no affect either. At this point, I want to populate the map with every thing I can get from RF. After I can do that, I can decide what I want to see and what I don't. The ultimate goal is to run RF mobile only, without IS access. Such as tracking SAR teams from a field command post.

First we have to get the TNC communicating with APRSIS32.  Do the upgrade, enable the file logging and the RF port logging, run it for a while and then send the APRSIS32*.LOG files to KJ4ERJ@... along with your APRSIS32.XML file.

At this point, I'm pretty much lost and rather frustrated. It's time for me to go to the shop and build something of steel. I understand that and I CAN use a hammer to make that do what I want it to.

There's been a few times I've wanted to use a hammer on my laptop to make it do what I want as well.  Lucky for me, there's never one handy when that mood strikes me.

Hi Guys, and Gals

That's correct, for the moment, I have ENABLES/ APRS-IS  unchecked. I
want to watch JUST what's happening on the local digi's. (That does explain the * though.)

>> When you say "red highlighting", can you screen-cap and send what you see to KJ4ERJ@...?

One of the fine folks here pointed me to the part of the wiki that describes the highlighting. The red means the station is REAL close.( I guess if it's in the same computer, that qualifies as close )

>>> When I look at the MFJ log, I see the traffic, preceded by "missing

It's stopped doing that. No idea why.

Another option is that the TNC is going out of KISS mode.  Most likely the case if your DO have

Set Quiet Time for the RF port to zero, if that is the case.

Yes, APRSIS32 runs fine "in the background". I have 3 instances running
24x7 on my laptop, so by definition two of the three are always in the
background. And, contrary to what many people believe (), I
really don't monitor APRS-IS personally 24x7.

> When I look at the MFJ log, I see the traffic, preceded by "missing leading CO"

Can you make sure Enables / Logging / File Enabled is checked along with
your MFJ log, let it run a while, and then e-mail the APRSIS32.LOG file
showing this error to KJ4ERJ@...? It sounds like non-KISS data is
coming in from the TNC. Maybe the TNC is dropping out of KISS mode? Or
if you close/reopen APRSIS32 (or disable/enable the port), APRSIS32
might be taking it out of KISS mode with a .

Anyone else out there have an MFJ TNC running with APRSISCE/32? If so,
what are the configuration settings required in the TNC along with what
s you have in your XML file?

Hi Fred,
Yup, That was the answer I was looking for. I was sure I'd seen it somewhere, but I've done so  much reading in the past few days, I couldn't remember where I'd seen that. I couldn't find it again when I went looking

OK, here's (probably) a dumb question. When I fire up APRSIS32, with my radio and TNC2 clone (MFJ1274) at first the map begins to populate with objects. as the session continues, eventually, all I see in the received stations window is my call (with red highlighting).
