Can I suggest looking at the driver for usb to d plug. Windows will update drivers. It could be a cloned chip in the usb as I have seen the same issue.
Going back to the old driver of 2007 resolves the prolific issue.

What is the TNC?

It it KISS mode or some other protocol?

What port type do you have configured in APRSIS32?  Simply(KISS) or something else?

Do you have any custom <OpenCmd>s in your APRSIS32.xml configuration file for the port?

If you enable the Port<YourPortName> trace log in APRSI32 and then disable/enable the port, what shows up in the trace log?

If you see "accurate and readable strings" from the TNC in a terminal emulator, then it the TNC is not in KISS mode.  If you have APRSIS32 expecting a KISS-mode TNC

With the port enabled, what do you see in the rotating status window?  You should see something like APRS-IS OK alternating with something about <YourPortName>.

Using a USB to DB9 cable which is known to be good. Port 5 at 4800 baud. These settings have not changed since 2012. TNC reports accurate and readable strings at 4800 when using a laptop plugged into the DB9 port on the tnc.

Any idea's on what to check next?.

Re: Igate setup

Lynn Deffenbaugh

On most APRS-IS servers including the Tier2 rotate DNS names, 14580 is the filtered IGate port.

This is NOT true on firenet.us which should not be used for an IGate because it does not off any IGate-capable ports.

Also, the date/time box on the lower right background color represents how much CPU APRSIS32 believes it is using vs how busy the system is in general.  This is only an approximation and sometimes gets confused and goes solid red background.  It has nothing to do with GPS nor satellites.

It doesn't show popups, but sometimes the screen layout at the URL below is helpful.  For instance, 16 is the date/time box.

http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:screen-elements

Also, the date/time box on the lower right background color represents how much CPU APRSIS32 believes it is using vs how busy the system is in general.  This is only an approximation and sometimes gets confused and goes solid red background.  It has nothing to do with GPS nor satellites.

And definitely what GPS are you using via what connection and how do you have it configured in APRSIS32?

Oh wait, you mean the Control-O feature?  Try closing the empty window and hitting Control-O again.

There may be a message box hiding somewhere that says something about failing to load a TLE URL.
