APRSISCE/TN-D710 set-up

kobvbg3lifoji5e6puvt3avv33qmjisqhwybn7g6@...

I am running a Dell machine with Windows 10.

Connected to the Dell via the supplied accessory cable supplied by Kenwood and is connected to the D710 on the back of the control head then to a USB port on the Dell.  The Dell does not have a 9 pin connection on the back.

On the computer screen is running the APRSICE/32 software.  When connected to the Internet I see all kinds of stations popping up.  When not connected to the Internet I only see my call AF5AA-1 on the screen.

I have read the documentation on APRSISCE both on the Internet and user's manual.  I do not think I have the set-up correct because reading the documentation I see all kinds of things I am missing.

Is there a detailed description on how to connect and set-up APRSISCE?  I want the D710 to feed the computer with information not the Internet.

Thanks:

Burt

What is property procedure to attach pix via the email route?

New Kenwood TM-D710GA

KD7YZ Bob

I require some D710GA mentoring in order to get the "best/most" out of APRSIS32 here.

Thanks to Randy KAØAZS, I have in front of me the :

http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/port:kenwood-tm-d710

page.

That read, I still do not believe I have cabling correct no APRSIS32 settings right.

I have the DB9 to a RadioShack like DB9 to USB connector into the radio "COM socket. This produces Com9 at 19200 baud.

I have the programming cable from RT systems (gray) into a"PC" and that USB plugs into, or results in, Com15 also at 19200 B.

The rig came with a plug whic ONLY would plug into radio DATA socket. That one has a green and a purple(like) 3-pole plug. I have not plugged it in cuz I simply am too dumb to know where it should reside.

My lashup allows me to occasionally send out a strange beacon containing info about battery charging. Nonetheless, I am 'beaconing' and it show up on FindU and APRS.

My 'beaconing' screenshot shows the Hose Symbol dead-center, which is where I am (fwiw).

My goal, after u optimize my lashup, is to let PstRotator trACK SOME OF THE APRS SATELLITES. A WEEK AGO AND BEFORE THE NEW kENWO0OD, i WAS GRABBING TO OCCASIONAL PACKET FROM bRICSAT AND iss ETc.

thanks for the help Lads.

This is important to me as I am a wee bit laid-up ... which willl no doubt cost me a couple months sanity ... thus getting this to work and thus entertain my mind will be a large relief to XYL and me.

PS .. hope screenshots (3) can pass through here.

Not sure if anyone replied, but it is as simple as:

(Assuming windows)

0. Close APRSIS32 (or make sure it is closed)

editing the file while open will not work as it gets overwritten on close

1. Open Windows File Explorer

2. Navigate to the subfolder where aprsis32.exe and supporting files are (should also have a subfolder OSMTiles).

3. Looking at the files, there should be :

   a) APRSIS32.exe

   b) APRSIS32.xml

   c) APRSIS32.log, plus any number of APRSIS32##.log files

4. Left click on the APRSIS32.xml and choose Edit

This will open the file for editing in the default text editing file - typically Notepad.exe

5. Press f

in the Find what: text box type devel then press

6. Chnage the line that you go to from

    0

          to

    1

7. Save and Close the text editor

8. Now back in File Explorer

Double click on APRSIS32.exe to start the app and allow it to upgrade the system and restart

That's it!

My MultiTrack screen always comes up dim and a larger window than my computer screen, so I ALWAYS need to brighten the screen and work at resizing it.

My question is how do I change the default MultiTrack screen to something else?  Or how the heck did it get wrong like this?

After restarting APRSISCE/32, you have to look at About to see that you are running the Development version and to allow it to download the latest version.  After that restart, Control-O should work.  At least, provided that the About box indicates that you have successfully switched to Development.

OK, good to know.  I've used both here without issue, but then again, maybe it did change some things in the file that affects APRSis32 in a bad way.  I'll use NotePad from now on.

Re: Development mode

Lynn Deffenbaugh

Ok, so e-mail your APRSIS32.xml file to me at KJ4ERJ@....  I'll edit the single character necessary and e-mail it back to you.  Then, with APRSIS32 closed, you can copy the updated file over the original and start APRSIS32.  About will then provide the option to download the latest development version.

But as has been stated here, the Development version enables several features that can cause issues in your local RF environment if not sufficiently understood.  Even the local Satellite tracking can be complex which is why it requires development mode.  If you can't handle editing a single character in a single text file, I'm sure some of the development features will be overwhelming.

As for where the instructions are, they are on the Wiki at:

http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:development-version

and

http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:editing-xml-configuration

You can't just double-click the APRSIS32.XML to edit it.  You must open it in a TEXT editor like Notepad (but NOT WordPad).  Once you have it open in an editor, search for Development and change that 0 to a 1 then save the file.  Make sure you do this with APRSIS32 CLOSED!

Once you have made the change and saved/closed the APRSIS32.XML file, you can start APRSIS32 and it should be in development mode.  You can check for and download new version using the About menu option.

Open the APRSIS32.XML file in WordPad or MS Word, scroll down close to the bottom, and look for the line:

0

Change the 0 to 1, save the file, restart the APRSis32 program, then click "About" in its menu.

Then you’ve got a different version of the program than everyone else.

If you can write an email, you can get to development mode in the version everyone else has.
