Re: How do I verify if iGate is setting up correctly?

Komkit Listisard

Well hello there.  Thank you for you info.  Yes, I can see my station showing on aprs.fi after I sent out my position.  What I do not understand for sure if what I am seeing in the iGate log within APRSIS32 program.

Looking at the log my bald head is spinning :)  What does that even mean? I see a lot of packets scrolling by does that mean I sent what I heard to the APRS IS?

Example below, I just do not know how to translate to the language that I could understand.

Like that first line.   Is W5ODJ-5 sending out a position report and KV3B-1 digipeating to W3KIT-10 and then W3KIT-10 place W5ODJ-5 on the map (APRS IS)?

Store Map Tiles on microSD Card?

I knew how to do this once but forgot and can't seem to find it here on on the Wiki.

How do I direct Map Tiles to store on my tablet microSD Card?

Thanks!

I've looked at the flagged packets and do not see anything wrong with them.  You'll have to contact the APRSDirect folks and have them double-check their algorithm for detecting "out of order" packets.

But you might want to capture a few screen shots before the flagged packets scroll out of their history since it seems to have corrected itself.

Can you provide the link where aprsdirect is talking about the wrong order?  aprs.fi doesn't show any issues and your raw packets look fine as relates to the included timestamps.

Re: Transmitting through APRRSISC32

It is annoying that it is output only without an external TNC/interface. And Yaesu is well known for ignoring suggestions and complaints. They still haven’t fixed the bug where duplicate packets result in a chime you can’t mute, they forgot to include it in the aprs chime on/off menu settings.

with that being said, at least they do support aprs, unlike Icom. My TNC3 is awesome and the BT function means I probably would have purchased it anyway.

Re: Transmitting through APRRSISC32

The FTM400 does have the audio I/O and PTT on the 10-pin connector for an external TNC (or sound card variation).

I think the worse part of all of this is that the reviews (such as the ARRL review in QST) don't make that point clear.  I do not know of anyone who has purchased a Yaesu "APRS radio" who was not surprised to find out that it required an external TNC of some sort in order to fully use the APRS function with an attched computer.  Most I know said something about readin reviews on the radio and buying it from that infomration, only to find this severely lacking feature.

PS: IMHO - Yaesu is still takng advantage of these and not making any effort to satify their customers.  There is no doubt they have recived complaints, and yet they are still making new models with the same configuration.  That attitude has really turned me off from Yaesu products.

What you are doing wrong is that you are using a Yeasu APRS radio.  Yaesu, in their infinite wisdom, does not allow transmitting from outside the unit.  It will only transmit what it internally generates.  Even their protocol for passing decoded packets out the serial port is not quite the same as all other APRS radios before it.

If you want to transmit, by Yeasu's own documentation, you must hook up an external TNC and completely ignore the APRS capabilities of the radio itself.

PS.  I just quick-scanned the FTM-400 documentation and I didn't even see how to connect an external TNC to that model.

Re: Transmitting through APRRSISC32

The only way I've gotten my 350 to work is to use a signallink and sound card Tnc or an external Tnc like TT4. I would assume as I don't have the cable for the 400 that you would have to do the same.  It's a pain but it works. And if you go the sound card route you now have the capability for other sound card modes like FL Digi.

Re: APRS

Rob Giuliano

WELCOME!

I assume that since you are in this forum you are referring to using the KPC-3+ with APRSIS32.
There are 2 options fro working with the KPC3 and both are explained here:

Many people prefer to place the KPC-3+ in KISS mode outside of APRSIS32.  The KPC-3+ will stay in KISS mode even after resets and power cycles, so this works fine.  The above WIKI page explains how that is done.
This requires a terminal emulator (Like TeraTerm, PuTTY, or old Windows Hyperterminal) and the commands found in the KPC-3+ manual.

The alternative (and one really don't "need" any external computer applications) is to edit the APRSIS32.xml file OPEN commands to place the KPC-3+ in KISS mode when the application starts, and CLOSE to exit KISS when you exit APRSIS32.  This is also explained at the above WIKI link.

Post back an issues or questions.

Re: RX/TX From radio/tnc

Morning James.

Well I know everybody would like more info. I just don't have any more to give. If I had more I could probably figure it out too. Shut down Putty and tried to reconnect to program, nothing happens. I can reconnect with putty though. This new cable I am trying has drivers from 2009. When I reconnect with putty I have to restart the KPC 3+ or else it will not decode any strings. Again I have tried this  same route with the program too with no results. And Rob I will try and send a snippet of what you asked for.

Re: RX/TX From radio/tnc

James Ewen

The rest of the world will tell you that it will work.

If putty can access the serial port on the machine, then APRSISCE/32 should be able to as well.

You will need to release the port from putty and then tell APRSISCE/32 to open the port.

We have asked for a terminal emulator tool within APRSISCE/32 for many years, and Lynn has hinted at including one some day. It would be very handy in situations like this to allow one to be able to test serial communications, and prove out operations. Many people get caught trying to make multiple programs talk to the serial port at the same time.

It is difficult to diagnose and test functions without the proper tools. It is difficult to be able to diagnose and correct problems like this over email. People including myself are giving partial hints at what to try, and you are giving minimal information back about what is happening. That’s not to fault anyone, it’s just the nature of the beast. Any one of us sitting at your computer could probably have you up and running in a minute or two. But this method takes a lot of time because both sides have limited focus. There’s going to be something that you are missing in what we are telling you to do, and/or something that you are not reporting back to us.

Once you have it working, there will probably be an aha! moment where the tiny missing piece is discovered.

It will work, guaranteed! 🤪

James
