Re: Blank map
Lynn Deffenbaugh
Try right arrow a bunch of times to increase the opacity of the map. But if that were the case, I don't think you'd be seeing "state lines". If you could post a screen shot of what you do see, it might help determine what is going on. Remember left arrow increases transparency and right arrow
increases opacity. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE

Blank map
Don Woodward - KD4APP
Today I checked my iGate and the map was blank except for the stations and state lines. I must have pressed some key sequence by mistake. Any idea what I did?

Re: object disappear after 1h from aprs.fi
Lynn Deffenbaugh
If you are referring to the HAM/CB object, you need to keep your APRSIS32 open to periodically refresh the object. By default aprs.fi only displays things for the most recent hour: And the last time this object was sent to the APRS-IS was over 4
hours ago (current time 17:25 EDT): Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and Win32 On 4/1/2022 5:20 PM, Lynn Deffenbaugh

What object ID and how do you have it configured? Details help get the right answer. Do you have the object Enabled, and what Interval do you have
specified? And do you have the "Via -IS" checked? Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE

Re: APRSIS32 sends ACK twice
Thanks again for reply Lynn,
I do agree with you for number 4 but I have tried and maybe I could not make the VARA author understand due to language differences. I would be glad if you could implement my first 3 questions because they will improve HF APRS a lot. I am on 10147.30 kHz USB DIAL every day using 2 sessions of APRSIS32, one as M0SUY-10 for 300baud PACKET APRS and another as M0SUY-11 for 200baud ROBUST PACKET APRS using one HF Radio! I also run another session of APRSIS32 on 144,800 kHz for 1200baud PACKET APRS and I am very happy with your program. -- 73 de Demetre M0SUY/SV1UY APRS: 1st & best Social Network

Re: APRSIS32 sends ACK twice
Lynn Deffenbaugh
Those are all reasonable configuration except number 4. APRSIS32 relies exclusively on the TNC/Audio/RF interface to handle all of the link-level stuff. It assumes that a packet can be queued to send at any time and the interface will handle whatever is necessary to ensure a clear channel.

Take #6 up with the VARA Modem folks or see if someone can write a piece of shim-ware to go between APRSIS32 and the Modem itself. Besides, if the Modem doesn't have a BUSY detector, how would an external program even begin to come up with one? Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and Win32

Re: APRSIS32 sends ACK twice
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for the reply. I would like to use APRSIS32 with VARA because your APRS Program is by far the best of all APRS Programs, but since VARA does not support CSMA like PACKET RADIO or ROBUST PACKET RADIO, is it possible in some future version of APRSIS32 to be able to setup in the XML configuration file the following as options? 1) the possibility to adjust how many ACKS to send per received frame (i.e. single or double), 2) also to be able to adjust how many APRS TEXT MESSAGE RETRIES you want the program to use, 3) to be able to adjust how many seconds are allowed between each RETRY 4) is it possible to include some sort of BUSY Detector on VARA Traffic included in your program would be great since the VARA Modem does not have a BUSY Detector and it relies on the External program using the VARA Modem unfortunately. Of course all these should have the default timing unless someone wants to alter them. I believe this will benefit HF AX25 APRS and HF ROBUST PACKET APRS too because the current algorithm works great VHF PACKET APRS but for HF I feel it is too aggressive! -- 73 de Demetre M0SUY/SV1UY APRS: 1st & best Social Network

Re: APRSIS32 sends ACK twice
Lynn Deffenbaugh
Because a messaging spec somewhere recommends that the ack be sent on RF twice in quick succession to improve chances of reception. It's not mentioned in the APRSISCE retries page, but that is also a good read:

Re: OverLand question
I keep telling everyone I'm too young for FT8 ;) although I'm a few years older than most I'm telling it too :-D Since the IC-7100 is a single VFO that wouldn't work for me. But I do keep forgetting about JS8 mostly because I will be driving and it's just easier to send out a email via winlink at the start and finish of each day. The Surface will be my HUD, but I was thinking about tossing a Pi('s) in with AllStar and or PiStar for when I was connected to the net.

Re: OverLand question
Most compact way to achieve this is with JS8CALL running M0AIX utility that beacons to the APRS network at regular intervals. A simple hf rig running on 40M would get it done. A Raspberry Pi running an image by KM4ACK will fit the bill perfectly. 30M APRS also works well. Many maritime stations also can send and receive WinLink which can post position reports. I have a FT8 Phaser 40M with a Pi. Very compact, and the Pi can be ran headless, so all u need is a phone to access and control. Just my experience, I have used this system on my boat, works great. 😎

Re: OverLand question
I had looked at VGC in the past, I was looking for something to mount on the jetski but for some reason I overlooked the APRS. A local ham to me has that radio with the bluetooth mic, it doesn't sound the greatest but it definitely works. Although I have a S21 Ultra I was looking for a bigger screen for the truck. on the bike or jetski the phone would be okay. I wonder if Samsungs DEX would work in the scenario.

Re: OverLand question
The IC-2100 will be a set it and forget it radio. all my normal comms will be from the IC-7100 which has a build in sound card so no TNC is needed just a USB a-b cable. So it looks like my next purchase will be the TT4. Thank you for the input.
