Re: Scroller full of stations, no symbols on map
Yes, on the left side under connections there is a listing for Serial. The additional settings are in that window.

Windows had HyperTerminal.
TeraTerm has always been a separate application.
The most popular applications
for Windows 10 appear to be:
4. Termite
Although I
don't think it will send control sequemces like ^C for break very

There are many more, but these
seem to be popular.

The easiest way to connect a KPC3 to APRSIS32 is
to:
1. Place the KPC3 in KISS mode using:
a) Terminal program
(TeraTerm, etc.) and enter the commands at the KPC3 prompt
b) Use the exe files
posted some time back
2. use a Simply(KISS) port
NOTE: My experience is that
the KPC3 in KISS mode expects hardware flow
control.

Just a though:
If you are still having issues you can rename
your APRSIS32.XML to APRSIS32.bak before starting the
program.
You will have to put in your callsign and
relocate yourself on the map, but APRSIS32 will create a fresh new
XML.
Clean start!
Afterward, you can use a file compare tool to see
what the changes are and maybe determine what caused the
issue.

From memory, I believe you said you had a scroller

A few things:
1. Are the stations heard:
a) RF?
b) IS?
c) Both?
2. Is there anything just to the right of the "zoom

What are the settings of Menu

3. What are the settings of Menu >Configure

4. Did you scroll out to see if they were outside the map

5. Might they all have timed out?

So, please tell me explicitly and in detail what you are
connected to right now. And I'll help you get it working
properly.
The reason you are NOT seeing stations on the map is definitely
due to that <UI> that is prefixing every single packet.
They are being interpreted as position-less status packets
according to the aprs101.pdf specification.

If you are still having issues you can rename

You will have to put in your callsign and

A few things:

2. Is there anything just to the right of the "zoom

What are the settings of Menu

3. What are the settings of Menu >Configure

4. Did you scroll out to see if they were outside the map

5. Might they all have timed out?

6. What is the value in Menu >Configure

Those are the items I can think of that may impact

He is "receive only" and is receiving stations from
the radio.
The radio is feeding him data because things are
showing in the scroller and that is the only interface
enabled.
The reason the stations don't show on a map is they
are not reporting a position (BLACK scroller text) and so, are off
the coast of Africa (0,0). These could be 3rd party packets
that are being fed onto RF, but they don't have position
reports that APRSIS32 is decoding.

Re: Scroller full of stations, no symbols on map

I was wanting something to use as a terminal program. Tera term disappeared from windows machines a long time ago. Is it available to be downloaded from somewhere? Thats why I mentioned a terminal window in APRSICE. Other programs like YAAC and maybe xastir have that function.
I haven't found how to make KISS port work. Keep getting errors and missing expected response lines in the logging windows as the connection process tries to open the port with the tnc,
Is there info on the APRSICE wiki relating to this?

The easiest way to connect a
KPC3 to APRSIS32 is to:
1. Place the KPC3 in KISS mode
using:
a) Terminal program (TeraTerm, etc.) and enter the commands at the
KPC3 prompt
b) Use the exe files posted some time back
2. use a Simply(KISS)
port
NOTE:
My experience is that the KPC3 in KISS mode expects hardware flow
control.

Just a though:
If you are still
having issues you can rename
your APRSIS32.XML to APRSIS32.bak
before starting the
program.
You will have to put
in your callsign and
relocate yourself on the map, but
APRSIS32 will create a fresh new
XML.
Clean start!
Afterward, you can use
a file compare tool to see
what the changes are and maybe
determine what caused the
issue.

From memory,
I believe you said you had

symbols on the map.
A few things:
1. Are the
stations heard:
a) RF?
b) IS?
c) Both?
2. Is there
anything just to the right
of the "zoom
bar" next to the scroller?
What are the

items I can think of that

He is "receive only" and is
receiving stations from the radio.
The radio is feeding him data
because things are showing in the scroller and that is the only
interface enabled.
The reason the stations don't
show on a map is they are not reporting a position (BLACK scroller
text) and so, are off the coast of Africa (0,0). These could
be 3rd party packets that are being fed onto RF, but they don't
have position reports that APRSIS32 is
decoding.

Re: Scroller full of stations, no symbols on map
The easiest way to connect a KPC3 to APRSIS32 is to: 1. Place the KPC3 in KISS mode using: a) Terminal program (TeraTerm, etc.) and enter the commands at the KPC3 prompt b) Use the exe files posted some time back
2. use a Simply(KISS) port NOTE: My experience is that the KPC3 in KISS mode expects hardware flow control.

Christopher Rose <kb8uih88@...>
Thanks everyone for their input. Lynn, I am trying all the options to open a port that the kpc3 might like. So far no joy. Your program only has so many options. If you had an option for the kantronics tnc's I would like to see it. That would be the port label then. Randy, I don't know where to look for the TNC command set. I looked at the xml file and didn't see anything like that. Sorry. Robert, menu configure scroller has all checked. Menu view all is checked. Screenshot attached for other questions you had. Just a though:
If you are still having issues you can rename
your APRSIS32.XML to APRSIS32.bak before starting the
program.
You will have to put in your callsign and
relocate yourself on the map, but APRSIS32 will create a fresh new
XML.
Clean start!
Afterward, you can use a file compare tool to see
what the changes are and maybe determine what caused the
issue.

Re: Scroller full of stations, no symbols on map
He is "receive only" and is receiving stations from the radio. The radio is feeding him data because things are showing in the scroller and that is the only interface enabled.
The reason the stations don't show on a map is they are not reporting a position (BLACK scroller text) and so, are off the coast of Africa (0,0). These could be 3rd party packets that are being fed onto RF, but they don't have position reports that APRSIS32 is decoding.

I think your only issue is RF traffic. All the stations in your scroller are in BLACK - no position known for the station.
If/when you see stations in your scroller with either RED or YELLOW text, you should see them on the map. For stations in GREEN text, you may have to zoom out further. You may see a station on your map in MN (from your original attached screen shot).

your APRSIS32.XML to APRSIS32.bak before starting the
program.
You will have to put in your callsign and
relocate yourself on the map, but APRSIS32 will create a fresh new
XML.
Clean start!
Afterward, you can use a file compare tool to see
what the changes are and maybe determine what caused the
issue.

request.
From memory, I believe you said you had a scroller
full of stations, but no symbols on the map.
A few things:
1. Are the stations heard:
a) RF?
b) IS?
c) Both?
2. Is there anything just to the right of the "zoom
bar" next to the scroller?
What are the settings of Menu
>View?
3. What are the settings of Menu >Configure
>Scroller?
4. Did you scroll out to see if they were outside the map
boundaries?
5. Might they all have timed out?
Is the scroller, scrolling?
6. What is the value in Menu >Configure

Those are the items I can think of that may impact
the viewing of symbols on the map.

Re: Scroller full of stations, no symbols on map
I think your only issue is RF traffic. All the stations in your scroller are in BLACK - no position known for the station.
If/when you see stations in your scroller with either RED or YELLOW text, you should see them on the map. For stations in GREEN text, you may have to zoom out further. You may see a station on your map in MN (from your original attached screen shot).

K8DAC-BB TCP

Just restarted to get some data. The stations showing regular
icons do have position data attached when I click on them. -----------------------------------------

been running very long. Probably most of the red dots are sitting
at 0, 0 off of Africa. Maybe zoom out more and see if you can see
anyone else.

Just a though:
If you are still having issues you can rename
your APRSIS32.XML to APRSIS32.bak before starting the
program.
You will have to put in your callsign and
relocate yourself on the map, but APRSIS32 will create a fresh new
XML.
Clean start!
Afterward, you can use a file compare tool to see
what the changes are and maybe determine what caused the
issue.

I am on RF, did not want an internet connection.
I zoomed out to see most of my state(MI). Some call signs I
recognized should have been in view.
I will look at the settings you have here and respond by
tomorrow.
Thank you

There are lots of us out here.
I get my messages directly through email and
typically respond the same way.
Looking through this topic and searching Groups.IO
for such things as your name (Rose or Christopher Rose) or 'no
symbols' did not get a thread that I could shed light on the
request.
From memory, I believe you said you had a scroller
full of stations, but no symbols on the map.
A few things:
1. Are the stations heard:
a) RF?
b) IS?
c) Both?
2. Is there anything just to the right of the "zoom
bar" next to the scroller?
What are the settings of Menu
>View?
3. What are the settings of Menu >Configure
>Scroller?
4. Did you scroll out to see if they were outside the map
boundaries?
5. Might they all have timed out?
Is the scroller, scrolling?
6. What is the value in Menu >Configure
>Screen >Symbol
Those are the items I can think of that may impact
the viewing of symbols on the map.
