someday we could have radio's that listen to aprs , grabs beacons listing the voice repeaters and programs
in the local repeaters into the radio for hams traveling in the ( new ) area.
It doesn't save the memories (as it could) but there is an APRS
technique supported by several radios to make current voice resources
available at the touch of a button.

KWD710(APRS) type ports do NOT support digipeating.  This is a restriction because in that protocol, paths cannot be set to include the used (*) bit which is required for digipeating.  Only KISS and AGW type ports support digipeating because in those, the AX.25 header is fully constructed and can include the required used bit.

So, the logs you're seeing from your KWD710(APRS) port show the digipeater logic detecting a packet that it CAN digipeat, so it fully constructs the new packet, but when it passes it off to the port, the port protocol driver (KWD710(APRS) in this case) rejects it because it is a digipeat packet.  Hence the burst of logs for each digipeat-able packet.

If you use an APRS-type port to your D710 or the AGW port to the other side of the radio, the digipeat function should work, provided of course that you receive a packet that your configuration thinks should be digipeated.

On the contrary, you DO have IGating enabled on your KWD710(Pkt) port.  From your screen shot, you have both RF to IS and IS to RF enabled.

I see on the second look that you have the port itself disabled, but if that were the case, we'd have never received a packet from it, would we?  Are you sure the port was not enabled when the log was generated, but that you disabled it after capturing the logs?

If you've been creating and/or destroying ports (especially deleting ports), it may be that APRSIS32 has gotten confused about an internal index.  To be sure, please restart APRSIS32 if you ever actually delete (not just disable) a port.

'no-84' bird is active on packet , the ISS has not been for some time..
lots of good stuff by Patrick on how to work it.

i have a radio+kam monitoring 145.825 full time as a port on APRSIS32 .

one more tip , running the rig in narrow FM mode seems to help for sat and weak signal packet.

regarding rig control for aprsis32 , i would REALLY LIKE to have that software
output the data from the aprs beacons showing the voice repeaters on the map
to something, i could load into my kenwood-2000 directly.

APRSIS32 has no built in rig control.  I am not sure how much "control" the D710 does through the computer.  I think it is more for programming the memeory, and voice option in an APRS message.

You will need something like Ham Radio Deluxe or other radio application that includes satellite tracking.
I was able to download Orbitron 3.71 and MyDDE, connect it to HDSDR with <F7> Options then "DDE to HDSDR".
The frequency in HDSDR seemed to be tracking.  Just did this as a test, so can't speak to how well it works.
  Might be able to try this later in the week.

This could work with other applications.

I have PSTRotator which can auto-switch to the next current in a list I
make. I am doubtful it can change the D710GA freq ... however, I will
ask over on their "board".

I saw a comment from someone else that said the D710 can handle both the intenal TNC and external Data Jack, but it sounds like they need to be on separate "bands" of the radio (A side vs. B side).   So, you are now able to see AGW packets in APRSIS32.  Sounds like you are almost where you want to be.  FYI, 127.0.0.1 and localhost are the same - "this pc" or the pc running the application. 

The mode on startup for things like AGW and APRSIS32 are important in that the application sends commands to the radio to ensure the proper configuration o communicate with them.  They typically have commands they send tot he radio/TNC to place it in the proper communication mode/protocol.

I will suggest you review the port settings in APRSIS32 and make sure you don't check Xmit Enable on ports that don't have the capability.  Not sure it matters, but still makes sense to turn that off.

I can address both of your two paragraphs better with some of the
screenshots.

First off, let ac knowledge that I understand I loose maybe 3DB or more,
whatever, by running the D710GA on the same Frequency Band. So far it is
inconsequential.

SO, right-hand channel(B) is on the AX.25 up/down links for the
pitifully few Satellites carrying Packet, at the moment.
Screenshot shows USNAP-1 ARISS from the SignaLink connection, the ONLY
one with that Frequency. It also show a local, N4TNA beacon.


Left-Hand channel A Band is on APRS.

One screenshot of the Scroller shows my ubiquitous Beacon. I have yet to
tell it that I am not testing batteries. But anyway, I left it in
SmartBeaconing .... as per one of a dozen GREAT PDF's recommended by
people. Randy has a great three page PDF which got me "going" on this
lashup, BTW .

I have noted that I must be in Radio-Mode Packet to interface to AGW
...I see though I can't DigiPeat even though I have that setting in
D710GA's menu set to Digipeat .

anyway, N4TNA, and my Beacon are copied off Left-Hand (chan A) and
Satellites off the right-hand Ch-B 145.825.

Also. I have the program SDR-Console running on 144.390 sending output
to VSPE-Line#1 VAC1 ...through AGWPE-Telnet to APRSIS32(port)

So far, The missing SSID problem has not popped up. I am guessing your
comment about not trying to tell APRSIS32 to run both Ports at the same
time was likely the cause.

The last couple days I have noted a SERIOUS  lack of 144.390 APRS
traffic. Neither the 15 element nor the stacked loops has seen anything
more than my beacon and N4tna.

This is another manifestation of my limited knowledge of interconnection
all this stuff.

UISS has ONE trait that helps me make AX.25 QSO over ISS ... there are
three buttons with text fields I can fill in then tap a button and have
a UI go out ...if anyone copies the DigiPeat from ISS ... they send
something ACKing it back to me and I fore off a 'In The Log Book type
call ... and Voila! another grid on 2m (usually).

I can't figure out how tro make APRSIS32 let me INSTANTLY select one of
three UI type messages and fire them back up to the bird(s). It's
crazy-fast to try to make a 145.825 AX.25 QSO.


  You will have to disable the Port(D710) ones you were using.  Using

from stuff I read when CW was the high tech because its waves were continuous enabling much lower bandwidth, but there were still die-hards insisting on maintaining proven technology, "Spark Forever!"

Just me being pedantic...

SmartBeaconing (tm) was developed on the HamHUD by Steve Bragg KA9MVA and Tony Arnerich KD7TA. just before the turn of the century... (can we say that now so we sound like old timers?)

SmartBeaconing (tm) was picked up and implemented on the TinyTrak by Byon Garrabrant N6BG,  and also on the Opentracker By Scott Miller N1VG . 

Much later Kenwood implemented SmartBeaconing (tm) based on the work that was done on the HamHUD.

Oh for the good old days! Back then we were actively working on tweaking settings in TNCs, learning how the digipeater network worked in depth, and creating the basis for the current digipeater network settings. If you wanted a fancy mobile APRS dispay, you made it yourself. I even contributed some code to the HamHUD that lives in the HamHUDs that still exist. (I just found mine in my move!).

GeniusBeaconing only affects position beacons generated by APRSIS32 and

I'm not familiar with UISS, but you have some interesting statements in the quoted paragraphs below.  Can you please expand on what you mean by the following:

"AX.25 QSO" - Yes, AX.25 is the base protocol on which APRS is built, specifically on the UI packets of AX.25.  But your term could mean a connected mode packet QSO which would also be over AX.25, albeit with other packet types.

Those three text fields in UISS - Do you know what actually goes out in the UI packets?  Are the text boxes just user entered payloads (which would imply knowledge of constructing raw packets compliant with aprs101.pdf), or does UISS place that text in an APRS-standard packet of some kind?

The reason you "can't figure out how" is that APRSIS32 does not include any such feature.  You're not missing it, it's not there. But if there's enough interest and it can be completely specified, it can always be added to the ToDo list.

AGW supports multiple radio interfaces into a single instance. These are identified as "Ports" with numbers starting at zero (at least internally).  APRSIS32 processes data received on any AGW port, but only transmits on port zero which is normally the first configured port in AGW.

Eventually I may work out how to handle multiple ports on a single physical connection (be it serial port or AGW/TCP connection), but for now, it only transmits on the "first" port. This applies not only to AGW, but also to multi-port KISS implementations like some Kantronics mutli-port TNCs and possibly DireWolf's Kiss-Over-TCP if DireWolf is running multiple ports and maybe even others that don't come immediately to mind.

First off, let ac knowledge that I understand I loose maybe 3DB or more, whatever, by running the D710GA on the same Frequency Band. So far it is inconsequential.

SO, right-hand channel(B) is on the AX.25 up/down links for the pitifully few Satellites carrying Packet, at the moment.
Screenshot shows USNAP-1 ARISS from the SignaLink connection, the ONLY one with that Frequency. It also show a local, N4TNA beacon.


Left-Hand channel A Band is on APRS.

One screenshot of the Scroller shows my ubiquitous Beacon. I have yet to tell it that I am not testing batteries. But anyway, I left it in SmartBeaconing .... as per one of a dozen GREAT PDF's recommended by people. Randy has a great three page PDF which got me "going" on this lashup, BTW .

I have noted that I must be in Radio-Mode Packet to interface to AGW ...I see though I can't DigiPeat even though I have that setting in D710GA's menu set to Digipeat .

anyway, N4TNA, and my Beacon are copied off Left-Hand (chan A) and Satellites off the right-hand Ch-B 145.825.

Also. I have the program SDR-Console running on 144.390 sending output to VSPE-Line#1 VAC1 ...through AGWPE-Telnet to APRSIS32(port)

So far, The missing SSID problem has not popped up. I am guessing your comment about not trying to tell APRSIS32 to run both Ports at the same time was likely the cause.

The last couple days I have noted a SERIOUS  lack of 144.390 APRS traffic. Neither the 15 element nor the stacked loops has seen anything more than my beacon and N4tna.

This is another manifestation of my limited knowledge of interconnection all this stuff.

Bob,

You might want to look at the Configure / Scroller options. These affect what packets are put into the packet scoller pane. Of particular interest for your application:

Configure / Scroller / Show IGate/Digi - This will add a second column to the scroller showing the IAge or Digipeater that last copied the packet, at least as far as APRSIS32 can determine. Note that you can see the Aliases that APRSIS32 ignores as the last digipeat via Configure / Aliases / Known.  You can also promote a "Possible" alias to Known via Configure / Aliases / Possible and selecting the one(s) that you would like ignored. This is how local and "state" aliases can become known to APRSIS32.

Configure / Scroller / No Internals - Suppresses internally-generated (*Int*) packets.  This can remove your telemetry indications.

Configure / Scroller / Not ME - Ignores packets originating from Configure / General / MyCall-ssid specificially.

Configure / Scroller / Not Mine - Ignores packets originating from the base callsign (before the dash) of the former.

Configure / Scroller / RF Only - Only shows packets received from ports that APRSIS32 believes to be coming from RF.

Confgiure / Scroller / Show All - Forces all packets to be shown without disrupting the other selections.

Configure / Scroller / Filter... - If you can generate an APRS-IS filter specification, only packets matching the filter will be shown.

Configure / Scroller / Hide NoParse - Mostly for debugging...

Configure / Scroller / FreezeOnClick - Scroller will freeze when you click on it and indicate by a red border.   This is handy when you've got LOTS of traffic going into the scroller and you want to stop it to investigate a few packets.

Also note that all of these settings only apply to NEW packets coming in to APRSIS32.  Existing scroller contents are not modified if these options are changed as those packets have already passed the previous settings.

Note to all:  The trace log windows in APRSIS32 support the clipboard!  You don't need to do screen captures and post pictures.

To copy the entire window contents, just hit the Copy menu option.  Boom.  Paste the text wherever you want it.

To copy a selection, drag the mouse over the desired lines and hit Control-C (as in Copy).  You can then paste those lines as text wherever you need them.

710 will happily run two functions.  Mine has a Kantronics KPC-3 Plus USB connected to the radio body’s DATA jack configured against Band B. 

Meanwhile, the good cable from RT Systems (or can be Kenwood’s own) is patched between the COMM port on the radio’s head and computer on Band A, utilizing Internal TNC.

She just sits there and successfully behaves like a pair of radios- and TNCs, doing two separate things, simultaneously, under a single PC running two softwares, with one antenna, and never complains.

There is no way to directly connect APRSIS32 to the sound card (SignLink or other).  APRSIS32 connects to TNCs (or at least serial data streams from them).  The function of AGWpe (or ther such software TNC/modems) is to take in the audio from the radio and decode the tones to turn it into a TNC data stream (software TNC).

You can connect APRSIS32 to AGW through an AGW port:
Example:
   Port Type:   AGW
  Port name:  D710_AGW
     <Create>
for Port Type pop up: TCP/IP
  IP or DNS:    LocalHost     (or your IP address of the compuiter running AGWpe)
           Port:    8000            (default)

I use AGWPE the paid version thereof, Packet Engine Pro.
It allows me to define any soundcard.

I was using UISS to gather the AGW Telnet output and display same ....
though I can see either Individual AGW ports I've define OR I can see
the ALL PORTS tab also on Packet Engine Pro.

So I created an AGWPE/Packet-Engine-Pro port off the SignaLink Soundcard
TX and RX definitions.

In APRSIS32 I see where I can define an AGW Port.

I do NOT find a way in APRSIS32 to create a port from a "Device" such as
LINE#1/VAC#1 which comes out of SDR-Console.
I didn't find a way to Directly have APRIS32 look at the output of the
SignaLink's Soundcard, which appears in Device Manger under
Sound/vid/game as USB Audio Codec.

SO ... I have external Data on the D710GA set to Band or channel, "B:"

Turns out this appears then in  the output  'Data Socket' of the
D710GA..... readable by the program APRSIS32 ... butttt, sometimes
there's garbage which appears to me to be some internal commands from
one thing or the other.

Though in my first email u can see the decoded Sats telemetry ... and
only one radio was connected to that 145.825 frequency //// CH-B

As there is no APRSIS32 "Port" defined for CH-B, there are no "View"
items for me to see; and there appears no way to tell iGate to seek
meaningful data from the D710GA's right-side display (145.825). And I
call it CH-b

This all my be related to an ongoing issue with either the PKT or the
APRS Ports I try to make, in APRSIS32.

Sometime, maybe today or maybe in the morning, the SSID box is blank and
my "Home" icon is missing too. See screen shots jpgs, if I am able to
send jpgs here otherwise tell me how rto send them please. I have the
before and after's.
