Hi,

I've setup my FTM-400XDR with APRSISCE and it receives fine. I just can't get it to transmit messages?

Is there anything obvious that I might be missing? I keep trying to configure the radio and I always check the Xmit button, but it always gets unchecked.

Is there a thread on this already? I looked, but couldn't find it.

Is it the password? It asked something about a password, but I don't know that I have any type of password. I've never needed one before?

thx,

josh

Re: Tile fetching

vince <vince83687@...>

Yes Lynn and group.

Yea how could this be done offline. Can one retrieve tiles by way of RF in the software program?
Thanks

Hi group and Lynn,

This sathurday, I'll be using APRSIS32 offline (without internet access) for an national earthquaqe exercice and need to fetch tiles for an entire region. Is there a way to fetch othen than having to scroll the region before leaving? Having to scroll 4 x 6 miles square at different levels is taking quite some time. Multiply this by 3 different tile set (osm, world street maps and world imagery), I'll be here for ever.

I would love to be able to fetch my entire region but what will be the volume of tiles and how much space it will take on the pc hard drive. I think tiles are plain images compare to maps that are vector images.

Thanks for any solutions.

The APRS-IS passcode is only used to send messages into the APRS-IS (Internet System).  Your RF "passcode" is your Ham license...

I don't know the FTM400 specifically, but in general Yaesu radios' built-in APRS is generally limited.  Receive is good, but transmit is problematic.  Most have better luck with an external TNC of some sort, or using a "Sound Card" equivalent such as Direwolf or AGW.  What are you using for the TNC function?

Re: APRSISCE & FTM-100

Ok, now I'm really confused.  In the first paragraph, you say you're using AGW with a sound card connection.  But in the second paragraph you say that the FTM-100DR has a callsign-SSID now set to K9JTV-10.  That should only be possible if the FTM-100DR is an APRS-capable radio with an internal TNC.  Which is it?

AGW has an AGW terminal that can connect to it, and I believe it also shows you the decoded packets somewhere, maybe only in the terminal.  Please use those tools to determine if it is decoding the received APRS packets correctly.  Once that is confirmed, we can work on the APRSIS32 interface to AGW.

Although you might want to consider using DireWolf as the sound-card program.  It decodes much better than the origina AGWpe.

Your AGW screen shot shows zero clients but one SocksAPI connection.  APRSIS32 should be a normal client and not a SocksAPI connection.  Do you ahve something else talking to AGW, or is it possible that port 8000 is the Socks port and you need a different port for a normal AGW client program connection?

Although, looking at the YAAC documentation at https://www.ka2ddo.org/ka2ddo/YAACdocs/config_agwpe.html, it seems that port 8000 should be correct, but then, it doesn't mention "SocksAPI", but only WinSock.

Are you using SVG's AGWpe or some other AGW-work-alike program?  Is it properly connected to the radio and tuned for decoding.  APRSISCE/32 will only get what your sound-card interface decodes.  And do you have the proper IP address and port (127.0.0.1 and 8000) to connect APRSIS32 to that program?  The FTM-100 port log looks like whatever it is connected to isn't speaking the AGW protocol.  The APRS-IS log is not necessary.

And no, the passcode is not your -SSID.  It would be the number after the dash after you callsign if you have one configured in APRSIS32.  Also, what is the callsign-SSID configured in your FTM-100?  They should use different -SSIDs.  See also:

http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:ssids

From https://aprs.fi/#!call=K9JTV* it appears that you're not using -SSID in APRSIS32, which is fine, and -7 has a text comment implying that it is an FT-3D.  What is your -9?

I also see that you're running the 2012 general release.  You'll definitely want to upgrade to the development version by following the instructions at:

Re: APRSISCE & FTM-100

OK, let me replace "connect to" with "received by" my FTM-100.

No stations with an "*" beside them.

Rotating Status Display says, "APRS-IS OK" and "FTM-100 OK" with a 30 minute countdown timber below them.

Ports log for both FTM-100 and APR-IS attached after I sent a beacon from my FT-3D to the FTM-100.

Call Sign is K9JTV, SSID (Is this what I had to e-mail to get to input in the program?) is 9359.

Thanks again,
-Jeff

First, APRS doesn't "connect".  It is a one-to-many notification system.

Do you see any stations with an asterisk (*) in the scrolling packet log?  These indicate packets received from an RF port.

What does the rotating status display say in the upper left (sometimes center) panel?  It should alternate between "APRS-IS OK" and something else.

If you open up Enables / Logging / Port() and enable it, what does it show when packets are received?  With this window visible and enabled, what does it show if you disable and re-enable the RF Port?

If you'd give us the configured station ID (callsign-SSID) for your APRSIS32 instance that is connected to the radio, there are some remote queries that we can do to answer more questions.

Re: Trace-Port of KEND710-APRS has errors

Lynn Deffenbaugh

I see you still having transmit issues with your D710 from another group.  Here's one simple test.  Can someone with a known good connection from a PC to a D710 test this as I only own a D700?

1 Close all programs that might be accessing the D710 including APRSIS32.

2 Make sure you have a cable from COM4 to the D710 head unit

3 Open a simple terminal program, I like PUTTY or TeraTerm

4 Connect it to COM4 and set it to 9600,n,8,1

5 Set your D710 TNC to Packet mode.  If it is already there, toggle it out and back into Packet mode.

6 The terminal program should see some sort of greeting from the D710.  If not, you have parameters or COM port wrong.

7 If you see a greeting, type CONV <cr>.  That will put the TNC into "Converse" mode which will transmit anything you type as the payload of an APRS packet.

8 Type "Test" <cr> and see if the D710 transmits.  If it does not, you have some setting wrong in the radio, likely an open squelch blocking transmissions.

9 Control-C will take you out of "Converse" mode and the radio should say "OK".

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until your terminal program shows a greeting when the TNC enters Packet mode.  Close the terminal program and repeat the whole top part if you need to change the COM port or parameters.

Repeat steps 5 through 8 if you need to power-cycle the D710 as it doesn't necessarily keep all TNC settings across power cycle.s
