Date
GPX import/export

Ryszard Labus

Hello Lyn, guys.

I found a minor but troublesome problem in APRSIS32.
During the cooperation with the search and rescue team. While searching
for a missing person.
I got from them data in GPX format.  These were files with sectors to
search, and landmarks.
I imported it easily. But when exporting data from APRSIS32 , my file
was not compatible with their (Garmin Basecamp) GPS software.
After a brief analysis I found that this could be easily fixed by adding
the following entry in the file header.

    xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1"

The header before the fix:
<gpx version="1.1" creator="APRSIS32 2019/01/21 17:53">

The header after the patch:
<gpx version="1.1" creator="APRSIS32 2019/01/21 17:53"
xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1">

If you could fix it in the program to make the export file look like it
was after the fixes, it would be a great help.
Because of our (hams) well-developed cooperation with search and rescue
groups.

Best regards SQ9MDD

What I meant was the kam/kpc are out as far as using it as a digi. Editing the software is easier and cheapest.

Just curious, why is the KAM/KPC3 out?
   Any commercial TNC you use for RF will likely act the same.

Re: Editing XML for digipeating

Rob Giuliano

I think this may have been answered, but I found it in the SPM folder...

KPC3 and KAM will not DIGI (by themself) when in KISS mode.  The computer application (like APRSIS32) has to handle this function.  KISS mode is a simple Modem (modulation from bits to sound) only.  The computer send it bits (with some overhead) and the TNC turns it into the modulated sounds that get transmitted over the air.  On receive the TNC turns those modulated sounds back into bits and sends them to the computer (again with some overhead).

For APRSIS32 to act as a DIGI, you must edit the XML as described here: DigiPeating - APRSISCE/32 The future of Amateur Radio APRS

IMPORTANT:  the inside the port is ignored (furture possible implementatio, but not used in the current version).  You must palce the "common to all port" outside the port descriptions.

The map (tiles) need a method to address them. If you can find the method, then they may be able to be used.

Which map are you thinking of?

How to set up access to tile server that requires authentication?

When accessed via other applications, login dialog pops up, and after I
enter credentials, I get the map.

With APRSISCE/32 no login is asked and map is not displayed.

APRSISCE/32 doesn't currently support authenticated tile server access.  Can you provide details of the tile server you are attempting to access so I can see if this is feasible?

Other applications may be embedding a browser which handles the map display and authentication for them.  APRSISCE/32 implements its own individual tile fetching, caching, and stitching for better control over performance.

As for the KPC-3 or KAM, I'll refer you to the specific TNC documentation.  But you probably don't want both APRSISCE/32 and the TNC both doing the digipeating.  Pick one or the other.

Re: Editing XML for digipeating

Some TNCs (Like Byonics TT4 and Argent Data Systems T3) can be in KISS mode and still handle other functions, but most commercial TNCs (KPC-3 and KAM) are pretty much a dumb MODEM in KISS mode.  Things like DIGI, mailboxes, etc. are unavailable in KISS mode.  To truly work with APRS applications like APRSIS32 the TNC really needs to be in KISS mode.

Free registrations allow to get 150,000 tiles per month for free.
I think for regular use is OK.
