Re: Hardware requirement for WM version

Lynn, I haven't had a chance to test it out yet on my e830 or my e805, but I'll do it once I get some time to. I think it is another user who was asking about CE platform.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I do not own any CE platform devices at the moment (well, there is one, but not being used: it is a Clarion AutoPC 310C, which is the AutoPC (now defunct) platform based on Windows CE 2.0, I used to use it in my old car, running Odyssey 2000 navigation package). The reason I asked about e830 and e805 is that both units have a 4.0" large LCD, and they are not being used right now so it's a bit of a waste (too lazy to sell them). I might be selling my HTC Advantage x7501 so even though it'll work fine I might not be able to enjoy it. The MWg 503g's screen is a bit small so I might not be using it either. I also acquired a MID lately: BenQ S6 running Win XP, and will test your win32 version soon (once I set up the unit w/ other things first). Thanks! 73, David

New Phone and Map Zooming Issues
radiofreq_prod <radiofreq@...>
Hi Lynn,
I have been running a Sprint Touch Pro which has the d-pad (circle multi-function button) like the AT&T Tilt. It functioned with up/down for zoom in/out and left/right for map transparency. I have recently upgraded to the Sprint Touch Pro 2 which no longer has the d-pad. It only has a zoom in/out slider as seen at the very bottom of this photo: http://www.htc.com/us/content/images/phones/touch-pro2-sprint-Support-124.png Is there any way to assign this 'zoom bar' (I guess you would call it) to be able to easily zoom the map in and out as opposed to having to open up the slider keyboard and use the arrows? Thanks for any input you may have. Other than that minor issue, APRSISCE is running like a champ on this phone. Even better yet, I don't seem to have the heat issue the Touch Pro/Tilt is so famous for. Plus it's a much bigger screen. 73, Jason, K2ENG (APRSISCE: K2ENG-12)

Re: Does aprsisce support Socks proxy?
ae5pl <pete@...>
While the Socks proxy is supposed to be invisible, if APRSISCE is using NetTCPBinding it doesn't support proxies. Here is a quote from a Microsoft thread:
"I have a program written with .Net 2.0 by me using normal tcp sockets and which I can tunnel through socks proxy, but after upgrading to .NET 3.5 (and still using sockets) my used tool can't grab the traffic. I'm using "proxifier" but there are many other capture tools, also some free." Maybe this will help Lynn. Socks proxies were supposed to be invisible to applications but with the continual evolution of TCP stacks, APIs, etc., there may be issues with certain configurations. 73, Pete AE5PL

I recommend looking closely at your server and port definitions in AGWTracker and APRSISCE and make sure they are exactly the same. 73, Pete AE5PL

Dear Pete,
I didn't run both AGWTracker and APRSISCE same time. So why APRSISCE doesn't connect to APRS server? When I set proxy server in connection setting, is the socks handled by the socket API or the application like Pocket IE? If Socket API, I think the APRSISCE should run. If the application, I think the application support is needed. Fujiura, APRSISCE does not need to do anything to support the Socks proxy. It is "transparent" to the application. In other words, you don't do anything in putty or AGWTracker to accomodate the Socks proxy. It is up to you to ensure that the Socks proxy properly intercepts the port you are connecting to in APRS-IS as a telnet type port. The Socks proxy is very old technology put in place to help restrict normal non-HTTP TCP traffic. It affects all non-HTTP applications on a device and must be configured to allow individual port connections. My guess is that your cell phone provider uses it to restrict type of access to streaming sites and "banned" sites. It should not interfere with APRSISCE if AGWTrackerPocket works as they both use the same TCP socket API. 73, Pete AE5PL

If there's enough demand, maybe, but you are the first person to ask in the 1+years of having the client in the field. May I ask who your phone provider is? Hi,
Is this software support Socks proxy? My mobile phone provider support two Internet connection. One is directly connected to the Internet but it doesn't support MMS, and another is connected to Internet through Web proxy/Socks server but it supports MMS. I try to use the second connection, but this software cannot connect APRS server. The first connection, it works. Hopefully, I want to use this on the first connection. Thanks.

There isn't any brand on it. it could be
Standard Windows CE SDK . There is a note like "Windows Embedded CE v6.0 (Build

I have ROM image files here http://rapidshare.com/files/296548204/YF82A_4.8_WINCE_6.0_ROM.rar .
it might help you identify exactly.

Re: Hardware requirement for WM version

One thing Windows Mobile developers learn is there is no such thing as "standard" Windows. APRS/CE and APRSISCE are two completely different programs by different developers. APRSISCE is built in the Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK environment targeting the ARMV4I processor. Windows CE has no guarantee of what sections of Windows API is available or not. It is left up to the whim of the platform builder.

Is there a brand on the device or is a standard Windows CE SDK development environment available for it? If so, that will tell me what I need to conditionalize out of my program to make it work there. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ Mustafa AYDIN wrote:

I managed to work many of pocket PC softwares on

After successfully used APRS/CE ,I thought APRSISCE
would work on this device as well.

Yep, point taken on 'Lost Fix' but I still think being able to select pre-programmed static points when 'en-route' would be good, I can think of quite a few situations where I would like to 'annouce'(for want of a better word) that I'm not exactly where my GPS thinks I am (or was).See Bob's APRS 1.1 extension called "Destination Waypoints" described at: http://wa8lmf.net/bruninga/APRS-docs/MOBILE.TXT This is part of the APRS 1.1 Spec Addendum you can see at: http://wa8lmf.net/bruninga/aprs/aprs11.html I'm considering supporting the ability to beacon a "destination waypoint" as well as interpret them and draw the lines that are described. I don't know how many other APRS clients do this, but it's part of the published spec, so I might as well support it! Who knows, I might even make it part of the Poll's () "slow beacon" mode! Oh, and another preview of things to come is that I'm designing a "coordinate picker" dialog that will embed the OpenStreetMap with pan and zoom to allow you to home in on and set a coordinate. It'll still support a variety of manually-entered coordinates, but you'll be able to see where you entered or enter what you see. - Thoughts? Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ

How long to make the delay before auto-disable is the hard part. I know with my AT&T Tilt the GPS will sometimes go out to la-la land for a few minutes when the visible satellite count drops to small numbers. I'll add this somewhere down on the ToDo list. The ability to easily select a different icon would be a nice touch though I don't know if many would bother with it. I'm using the icon of a jogger because that seemed the most appropriate for a pedestrian mobile, but I also have it with me in the car and people may get the idea I'm a pretty fast runner. It would be nice to switch to an icon of a car without opening the config dialog and scrolling through that long list. There could do with being an icon of a guy in a chair with his feet up for when the thing is docked in its cradle on the desktop. :)I've considered doing some sort of a named Profile set of settings that would include beaconing, Icon, status, and such. I don't know that I'll get as fancy as doing automatic profile switching ala the Tracker2 family, but at least having a Configure/Profile cascading menu selection might be nice. Hiking, Biking, Mobile, QTH/Stationary kind of settings where the user configures the names AND the parameters. I'm not sure how successful my earlier suggestion of an economy mode that only gets a fix now and then would be, because as Lynn pointed out the GPS will struggle to get a fix if you are moving. I have been trying to remember to disable the GPS (or switch the phone off with the button on the top which keeps the APRS-IS connection going so you can still receive messages) but I have been switching it on and then setting off without waiting to get a fix and as a result I have travelled long distances before my next position was reported.Yep, that's the GPS behavior. Those really quick fix times the manufacturers like to advertise are for fix acquisition without moving or at most walking. If you turn on the GPS, drop it on the dash, and dash on down the road, it'll be a while till it figures out where you really are. I've taken to backing out my driveway and turning the GPS on while I record my mileage (yes, most of what I drive, I get reimbursed for). But then, I live on a cul-de-sac, so I don't have to worry much about traffic while sitting in the middle of the street! Economy mode still intrigues me because my GPS will pick up a fix pretty quick at walking speeds. It's trying to use economy mode while driving that would get rather iffy. Maybe an economy mode that disables itself if the prevailing speed is greater than some reasonable threshhold... Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - QTH at KJ4ERJ-2
