I presume unchecking the "Sound" option disables this. I don't have sound on my shack computer because the sound card is used for digimodes on the radio. The message handling in APRSIS32 is one of the really good features of it. UI-View32 did not handle messaging properly. It did not retry messages with an increasing delay until acknolwledged. So it is good to have a Windows client that does messaging properly. The only thing I miss is that I can't see how to recall messages that have been received once you have looked at them, if for example you want to reply to them later. Re: Icon

Cool! A House and it's not in the middle of the ocean! And now a -10, that's another way to get aprs.fi to "allow" you to move a large distance. It then thinks you're a different station.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I've sent a private e-mail about the van not appearing. APRSIS32 only displays stations heard since you started running it. It doesn't record anything between executions, unlike aprs.fi which buffers stations for a LONG time. If you bring up a new copy of APRSIS32, your van won't appear until it beacons. It will then give you the option of Primary, Alternate, or Overlay and a pair of spin boxes that let you set the ASCII value of your symbol and possibly Overlay. The symbol and name of the symbol is displayed while you're spinning the buttons, so you can figure out where you want to land. Clicking Accept will make that the symbol sent out with the next beacon packet. Cancel will retain the originally select symbol. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ

Dave's pretty quick! That's exactly what I did. As I've mentioned in the past, I keep a copy of APRSIS32 running with u/APWW*/APWM* in the filter text. This gives me packets from anyone running APRSISCE (APWW*) or APRSIS32 (APWM*) as shown on http://www.aprs.org/aprs11/tocalls.txt
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
When I saw K0OZ show up, I sent a quick APRS message to you telling you about the reply. There really wasn't any direct connection except through my fingertips. If you have sound on your PC and don't have it muted (I keep mine that way too often), you should have heard a sound when the message arrived and the "No Msg" would have changed to a green background with my callsign in it. If there are any non-acknowledged outbound messages or unread incoming messages when you close the client, it warns you about them so you don't miss them. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ David Shrum wrote:

You must start APRSIS32 with the same default directory each time. It stores all configuration information in a file called APRSIS32.XML in the current directory. This directory must be writable by the program for it to save the configuration there.

HTC Mogul PPC-6800
Lynn Deffenbaugh
Is anyone out there running the subject device with APRSISCE? Even failing that, does anyone know if it actually contains a GPS? The review below doesn't mention it even though it seems to be fairly detailed.
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/HTC-Mogul.htm Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ PS. If you have one, be cautious in trying it. I have a report that it crashed a phone to the extent of needing an entire data restore. Nothing in my program should be capable of causing that extreme of a hang. At times, the program can be non-responsive (on my list to fix) when you are out of data coverage, but the Start Menu still works and Settings / System / Memory / Running Programs is always able to kill it without even rebooting the phone, let alone losing data.

Re: What phone
Lynn Deffenbaugh
How much data you use is subject to the APRS activity in your area, the range that you configure, and how long you keep the client connected (mine is 24x7). If you double-click the screen part that normally says "APRS OK", it will give you the packets and bytes sent and received since that instance of the client was started.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
A client on my desktop that has been running since 1/1 7:46 (1 day 16 hours) says 8,663,362 bytes total with a 200 mile range. Another client running an unfiltered full feed that has been running for since 12/31 at 16:26 (2 days 4.5 hours) says 490,145,574 bytes. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - As always, YMMV! g4ilo wrote:

I didn't have time to study the link you sent, but you'd also want to have an unlimited Internet service on the phone. The GPS must (currently) be supported by the Windows Mobile GPSapi. The upcoming release will be able to do NMEA GPS via direct or Bluetooth serial port.

that phone. I now have an extended battery on the phone and can get 3-4 hours tops with live tracking and GPS active (about a 70 mile range of monitored space). My phone also heats up quite substantially with all of the radios active (I keep WiFi active on trips for Navizon mapping), so I also arrange to have it in front of an A/C duct. When I turn the GPS off to simply monitor APRS-IS, I can extend the (extended) battery life to 8 hours or so of the same 70 mile range around Central Florida. Activity on the APRS-IS network affects battery life as you would expect. I tried monitoring 1000 miles or so on battery one time (3G), but it really ate into the battery. When I go mobile on my bicycle or hiking, I have run 7.2v NiMH battery pack through a 5v regulator and feed external power to the phone just to keep it running. With 2 packs and the phone's internal battery, I've gone well over 12 hours of full tracking with capacity to spare. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ David Shrum wrote:
