the laptop, that the TH-D72A is plugged into. It still is showing wrong

Radio is connected via usb port to com 3. I am running AGW Packet engine
on
the laptop. SSID for HT is KC2NYU-7, not sure which radio settings to
list.

But what's interesting is as George noticed, kc2nyu-7 is reported
correctly
in APRS FI. And when I look at APRSIS32 that I am running on main PC
(KC2NYU-1), the position for the HT is also correct. So it has something
to
do with the laptop.

Was Gene talking about his object K9ORU/R or your station? His object does have a box around it (see below). Your station, N9SZV, looks fine.

Fred- sorry for confusion, I meant in the APRSIS32 program I am running on the laptop, that the TH-D72A is plugged into. It still is showing wrong position on the laptop APRSIS32.

Radio is connected via usb port to com 3. I am running AGW Packet engine on
the laptop. SSID for HT is KC2NYU-7, not sure which radio settings to list.

But what's interesting is as George noticed, kc2nyu-7 is reported correctly
in APRS FI. And when I look at APRSIS32 that I am running on main PC
(KC2NYU-1), the position for the HT is also correct. So it has something to
do with the laptop.

UIFLOOD bubbling up?

Fred Hillhouse

Hi Lynn,

I am curious if a UIFLOOD function is bubbling to the top of the pile yet.
http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:uiflood

Best regards,
Fred, N7FMH

PS. My understanding is based on http://www.aprs.org/at-golden-packet.html:

UITRACE and TEMPn-N for paths produces 7 hops and arrives as
SGRLOF-14,MTWASH-13,N1CNA-12,GRYLCK-11,SAMSPT-10,CMLBCK-9,GDHILL-8,TEMP7*
UIFLOOD and HOPn-N for paths produces 14 hopes and arrive simply as:
MDMTN-7,HOP7,MAINE-14,HOP7*.

Actually, I'd be interested in seeing how the newly proposed FTM-350 workaround PHGnnnn/FFF.FFFMHz ... packets appear on the VX-8s display.  If the PHG is removed, whether or not the / is removed, and whether the frequency is visible or line-wrapped and how much of the subsequent information is included on the display.

Thanks, but I believe the answer has been given that no, they do not.  Just the FTM-350.

Nailing an accurate definition down would be a first step, and then
assess the implementation.

I ended up working until midnight last night, so didn't get any time
to work on looking into your changes, nor towards creating a test
packet array to be used to identify the various implementations.

Re: Kenwood TH-D72A as a TNC

Lynn Deffenbaugh

More likely a side effect of using a single -SSID for the radio and APRSISCE/32 or possibly you have Configure / Messages / My Messages checked?

Alternatively, it may be that when APRSISCE/32 transmits, the radio's MYCALL is being reset and from that point until the next TNC reset, the radio responds under the callsign-SSID of APRSISCE/32.

Kenwood never envisioned this usage or the mode switches would be more seamless and faster, but it does allow APRSISCE/32 to access the RF while still keeping the radio's APRS smarts active.

Don't know if this is relevant or not, but I have a d72a and use it with APRSIS32 without any problems. I have not done extensive testing, but I have used the d72a with my laptop in the car and had both messaging and GPS working. I used the d710 aprs preset when creating the port for the radio. Also, for me the GPS works only when the TNC is in APRS mode. Not sure what the implications are when using that mode, but switching the TNC to packet loses the GPS data. The bad part is the messages appear both on the PC and in the Radio message list...perhaps a side effect of using APRS mode?

If I am correctly reading the various threads here, it appears that the TH-D72A can be put in TNC mode, connect to APRSIS32, and the software will totally control it. That is, I could message an APRS station (using APRSIS32) shown on the screen.

In TNC mode, am I correct that reporting my own position in that configuration would require an external GPS (a puck) driving the computer?

Or will the TH-D72A internal GPS still report its own position?

Just FYI, my configuration is intended to be my Yaesu FTM-350 in the vehicle plus a second radio -- thinking the TH-D72A because I also want a personal portable -- through which I can message other stations and an EOC in EmComm situations. The Yaesu will report my position so that aspect of the TH-D72A is not important but I do want to understand all of the configurations.

Critical questions before I go spend money! Thanks to all for this software and the forum. Great work by all.
