Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2021 Verified Purchase This radio is really an AnyTone D878U radio, without access to the 2M band. Apparently Radioddity just puts their name on it. I had an AnyTone 878U for about two weeks. It was unusable. The process of programming it was so arcane, the documentation so poor, and the support so bad, I sent it back. You can imagine my disappointment when I found out that this wolf was wearing the Radioddity sheep’s clothing. I reached out to Radioddity with a couple of questions about programming and having my own radio ID. I got my first response 15 minutes later, after midnight! That’s great turnaround time! Ah, not so fast. Before they'd answer a question about their own radio, I had to prove I’d purchased it from them. I did so, and 10 minutes later got another response … they said they’d contact tech support and follow up. (I suppose this means they are contacting AnyTone or whomever actually makes this radio to get my question answered.) It’s now day three, and still no response. I downloaded the Radioddity CPS software (not coincidentally the same name as AnyTone’s software) and launched it. In the software’s radio boot settings, the default startup message “WELCOME ANYTONE” is present. Radioddity has apparently done very lityle to make this radio their own besides changing the sticker on its face. Later, I found in the settings that the radio itself thinks it’s an AnyTone D878U (see photo.) And so this is worse than the difficult, poorly documented AnyTone, because it’s a difficult, poorly documented AnyTone with the extra layers of having to work through Radioddity while they work with AnyTone to provide Radioddity support to support you. I have a cheap Baofeng radio. This radio can hear that radio when it transmits, but this one cannot or will not transmit an analog signal the cheap Baofeng can hear in simplex communication. A radio that can’t talk to another radio isn’t really a radio, is it? I’ve systematically and carefully tried every setting that could make a difference, both in the software and from the front panel and this radio apparently cannot transmit an analog simplex signal that the Baofeng can receive 2 feet away, or the poor documentation and overly complex software has that option buried deep where it can’t be found. Setting this up to hit a local repeater in analog is also apparently not possible. It appears to be sending a digital signal, even when set to analog. I’ve watched about four hours of videos for the AnyTone. When I follow those instructions, I can’t get this unit to work. I’ve searched for others’ posts on getting the Radioddity set up; there’s not much there. If you purchase this radio, know that you’re on your own. Good luck! UPDATED - Radioddity insists this is NOT an AnyTone radio, despite the fact that the software and the ROM says it is. I first emailed them with a simple question — Does the radio require a RadioID to work in analog modes — back on Nov 29. They email regularly to tell me they’re sorry for the delay, or the tech team hasn't responded, or the holidays got in the way, or they’re waiting on the tech team, etc, or the tech team hasn't responded.
