And now we've got to look to the future. Ultimately, one of three things is going to happen. Either they will go on for the next 40 years, 50 years, 60 years: "well we won't talk about that, lets talk about something interesting." That would be very sad. The second thing that could happen, is that some young genius will arrive and say "I've found it. It was not the savanna, it was not the water, it was this." No sign of that happening either. I don't think there's a third option.

Well, there is a third option (and there may be a fourth and fifth...)
Here is the third: A geologist will arrive and say: "I've found it. It was not East Africa where fossils can be found. It was West Africa, where chimpanzees can be found."
