Michael, according to QRZ.COM you are very active in Boy Scout activities. Please update us on your plans to participate in the BSA JOTA next weekend, October 18 to 20.

Maybe we can encourage some QSOs with 070 members! Maybe we need a Sticker to recognize participation and contacts with BSA stations during JOTA??
Definitely. I’ve worked a JOTA station a few years and Airfest (my APE a few years ago). The scouts definitely take an interest when they see a computer involved
:-)

Members, keep you eyes on the next up Calendar need dates:
* NO8R (1) – 10/17
* KC3FL (1) – 10/21
K5KHK (5) – 10/29
* Delos and John can, and I am sure will, complete 366 in October!!

I see several 366 Award chasing folks need some QSOs on OCTOBER dates coming up fast.

If you see these folks on the air, be sure to give them a call and make their DAY. Total days needed (#).

* NO8R (1) – 10/17

* KC3FL (1) – 10/21

KE0GHU (2) – 10/21

K5KHK (5) – 10/29

* Delos and John can, and I am sure will, complete 366 in October!!

A special Shout Out goes to Richard, WB8YXF who needed 16 September dates AND HE GOT THEM ALL!! He now needs only Leap Day, 2/29 to complete his 366 Award.

Great Job, Richard!!

Congrats also, to Yuri, R6KEE, Republic of Crimea, who picked up the dates he needed in September leaving him only 11/26 and 12/15 to complete 366. Yuri needs only 21 070 QSOs to complete his LONP. Keep an eye out for him!

Speaking of Leap Day, in addition to WB8YXF, 4 others need only 2/29: F8BFU, M5PLY, SA7BXU and WM4B.

To see what dates you need, upload your full log and check the "Online Endorsement Checker". In the "In Progress" section, click on "Target" for the 360 category and a list of needed dates will show. If you have a problem seeing that, please just let me know.

I have listed only the folks who are getting very close (within 20 dates). I am sure there are many more who need October dates, also. Let’s make 366 happen for as many as you can.

Of our 2,706 members, only 42 have achieved 366.

 The Ø7Ø Club 160M GREAT PUMPKIN SPRINT is Tomorrow

Saturday October 12 - 2000 UTC (1600 EDT) to Sunday October 13 - 2000 UTC (1600 EDT)

Sprint Rules - your choice of any 6 hour block.  Open to all licensed radio amateurs.

Frequencies: - 1.807 MHz Dial freq. (1.838 MHz Europe)

4 Power Categories:

QRP < 5 W
Low < 25 W
Medium < 50 W
High < 100 W

Exchange: Callsign,  RST  and  State/Province/Country (SPC)    eg: “W9SMR  599  IN”

Call: “CQ 070 160M Sprint”

All entry logs must be received within 1 week after the event ends.

For Rules and details, Click Here. Rules - 160M Sprint

This event will test your ingenuity and stealthy antenna talents in order to put up an antenna that will send your signals into the ether. It is not impossible.
After all, a 160M dipole is only 272 feet long.

And it will be worth pursuing, in order to grab that Top Band Endorsement Sticker with 20 QSOS on 160M. Only 43 of our 2,706 members have earned this one.

Last year, 12 logs were submitted with 11 QSOs winning. A record 24 logs were submitted in 2015, with 35 QSOs winning. Let’s see if we can beat that turnout.

And mark your calendars for the Annual Triple Play Low Band Sprint on November 9 to 11.

Yes Jerry, farther away works better.  I have the same problem when trying to work the FL QSO party, because most the stations are to far for ground wave, but too close for sky wave.  Usually frustrates me, hi hi.

Yesterdays effort was pretty successful.  Worked Rick, N7WE; Barry, VA7GEM, Jerry, N9AVY; and Stan, W9SMR.  Jerry was the best copy yesterday than I have seen in quite awhile during our grid adventures.  Did manage to see Stan on the waterfall, but he was really spotty copy, but did get him in the log.  Rick was also really light copy, I guess his signal did not like the cold weather.

We got up yesterday morning to 12 degrees and about 2" of snow on the ground.  Decided to wait until later morning to hit the road.  Had trouble with the windshield washers as they were frozen.  Stopped several times to clean the windshield.  One of the problems in FL is that car service places only put water in the washer.  I had put -20 degree washer fluid in but it probably had not propagated thru tubing.  The car was covered in much, but we finally got to where the snow had stopped and the road was clear so we stopped and washed the car.  The temp finally got up to 30 degrees and the washers started working.

Since it was 14 degrees this morning we are staying in and enjoying the fireplace in our condo.  Will start traveling around the area probably tomorrow and will try to activate some other grids.  Will post or text alert.

Adding to what others have already posted here, my great BIG THANK YOU to you and Kathy for the grids on this trip.  Truly an outstanding effort.  I'll be anxiously awaiting your trip back home.  More fun!

On a side note, when we were working summers in Yellowstone, part of the "make ready" before heading out (after we had a similar washer freezeup the first year!) was to drain the windshield washer tank and then pump the lines dry on both the motor home and the car.  Then refill with -30F fluid that we always brought home from the previous year.  I still have about 1/2 gallon I'll give you the next time we get together.  Haven't needed it here in Florida!

Enjoy the Fall there in Utah.  It should be spectacular!  Best to Kathy.
